In my @alamo180 Rookie to Race program, we cover how to set up and execute the transition.

If you're new to the sport, practice it so you know how to best set up your station and how to move through T1 (swim to bike) and T2 (bike to run). If you're not new to the sport, practice a few times before race day. Make any tweaks so you can shave seconds, or even minutes, off your transition times.

I've seen people lose podium spots because they spent too long in transition. I've seen people waste so much time during Half and Full Ironman transitions and then get nervous about time cut-offs.

RACE REPORT: swim.
The swim is my favorite! Cold water is not, so if you were there, you probably heard me squeal as I jumped into 68 degree spring fed water.
I felt really strong in the swim. I focused on form. My data showed I averaged 1:27/100yd! Not bad for only swimming 1x per week (only about 5 seconds per hundred off from my competitive triathlon days)! I was pleasantly surprised! Goes to show that CrossFit really does help with developing & maintaining strength and fitness.
The swim start was a rolling start with triathletes going every 5 to 10 seconds. We were instructed to line up with fast swimmers up front. Let me share some advice (I’m a coach, that’s what I do). 2:00 per 100 pace is a good pace, but it’s not the fast they are referencing. What they mean are triathletes that can swim faster than 1:15 per 100yd... and then 1:20ish and 1:30ish...and so on. When in doubt, ask several people around you to make sure you’re in the right spot. You might be fast, but make sure you're not in front of someone who's faster. A lot of people rushed to the front and I was about the 20th person in line. After I jumped in, I was immediately passing athletes left and right, some of which were barely moving. Please heed this advice in all swim starts, especially pool swim triathlons. I share this for your enjoyment and safety and for those around you.
I consider myself fortunate that I learned how to swim as a child and was a competitive swimmer for many years. If you are someone who did not get that opportunity, there is hope! Keep practicing and give yourself grace. Swimming takes a long time to master. I see too many triathletes get frustrated because they aren’t improving as quickly as they would like. I find it’s usually caused by comparing themselves to others and setting unrealistic goals. Comparison steals joy. ♀️Focus on you and only you and you’ll be proud of every accomplishment♂️

Strength training is a priority for me this season. Before I would add it to my plan if there was time, now I label it as just as important as a swim, bike or run. .
I have done both - seasons with and seasons without strength training and HANDS DOWN the seasons with are the best seasons. Proof is in the results. If you're looking to get faster, the answer is not always speed work, it's most times the need for more strength. More strength more power speed. Plus if you're a long distance athlete, you will become a more durable athlete. .
I own a gym and one would think it would be easy to get in workouts. Not necessarily. I'm crazy busy with classes and clients and training plans. I'm sometimes in awe that I get anything done in a day. All to say, no matter how much we have on our plate, if we make training a priority, we will get it done. And remember SOMETHING is always better than nothing! .

Doing what I love. Coaching. .
I didn't think this would become my profession. I had other life plans, other aspirations, and coaching was never on the list. But God knew better. He knew my strengths, my gifts, and my passion. .
This path didn't come easy. It's hard to show up to a workout with one or two people present. It's hard growing a program when you start with 3 athletes. But bring your best to those few athletes. Soon, with hard work and dedication, those few become many. This process might take years, but never lose sight of your goal. Never give up. .
Everyday I fall more in love with coaching. The lives I impact, the goals I help athletes achieve, and the transformations I get to witness...it's incredible. It's amazing. And I love it. Mid November run + sports bra = south Texas. My shirt came off 10 min in. It's a ☀️ 68 degrees out. Perfect running weather. I ran by a man walking in a thick jacket. That was weird.
I tuned out the world and tuned into God. I made it a prayer run. This is when I get the best ideas for my @alamo180 coaching business, hear about what He wants to do, pray for people that need it, and more.
Want to hear from God for yourself? Want to spend more time with Him? Want to know His thoughts? Find what you're passionate about and engage with God while doing it. Hence my prayer run. It's like conversing with a friend. But not every run used to be like this. I would tune out the world, or so I thought, but I would either stuff my problems deep down, or I would replay them in my mind. New season, new approach, more joy.
I encourage you to hear from God in fresh new ways. Invite Him into what you're passionate about.

Where I spend a lot of my time - coaching at the pool (as you can tell from my feed). I have lots of happy places and this is definitely one of them!
I started the @alamo180 Beginner Swim Series because I knew there were people that needed to learn how to swim freestyle. Not knowing how to swim was preventing them from doing a triathlon.
I offered the first series and people learned how to swim freestyle for the first time!!! Then they wanted more. Because of their specific requests, Beyond Beginner Swim Series was born.
