FORTITUDE. This one of the words for my year. Much in life takes fortitude, and I wanted to apply it to my creative/sewing life instead of FEAR and RELUCTANCE. In the face of new opportunities, I’m challenged to either grow, stretch, learn or simply hide. For the most part my response to new challenges so far has been: “What the hell. I’ll do it!” And I’m thankful for making this choice. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This top is a result of responding to a new challenge. I recently teamed up with @hackwithdesign using material of items from their Sustain Shop. The idea behind this shop allows customers to return used HDH clothing. HDH then renews them into new pieces. How amazing is that?!!! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ With some trepidation (I honestly did not want to screw this up!), I was able to take a top from HDH Sustain Shop (sadly I forgot to photograph it before cutting) and repurpose it into this self-drafted one. The fabric is a woven wool blend that is so light and airy. Like cardboard boxes and duct tape bad It's also has me thinking that I want to do more videos and tunisian crochet. I've been playing around with different stitches . I have a slightly better set up now. Slightly is used very loosley. As in I have a stand for my phone. It's definitely not going to be YouTube worthy yet. Maybe I can swing IGTV. Bom dia // good morning From me, my newly finished summer knit and the very first, very tiny sunflower back there :: It was fun and incredibly quick to knit this sweater. This was the first time I've knit something for summer - it's a hemp & organic cotton mix - and the first time I tried this ladder stitch. Anyone else feel this pressure to dress with all the frills and with all the details that get the “oohs and ahhs?” Well I do ‍♀️ From the time I became style conscious (6th grade?) I’ve felt the need for my clothing to stand out. But most of the time, especially now beginning my 30s, I love simple...I mean I. LOVE. SIMPLE. Simple silhouettes and color schemes—nothing too frilly. However, my love for simple does not mean I’m not tempted to try and make my clothes “stand out” with frills for those around me to take notice. I found my craft when I found rigid heddle weaving ♥️ At any given moment I have multiple weaving projects in the works ☺️ The one I posted this morning won't take long to finish. I'm using a thick fluffy warp with an even thicker weft. This one will be with me for a while! The warp is over 5 yards long! The thread is well just this side of thread. Way thinner than what I'm accustomed to use. I'll be working on her for awhile.
