13 miles “easy” paced today to total 44 miles for the week! Good news is I found the perfect path with some shade and water fountains right next to our new place. There were lots of runners and I had to suppress the urge to say “HI WANT TO BE FRIENDS” when running by each one . Strength training on deck for later today but first I’m going to lay in our air conditioned apartment and take a nap •

9️⃣0️⃣ minutes at 9 am in 90° sunny weather because that’s the only time you have while your husband is home for two hours.
This was really hard for me mentally.
It was hot.
I was thirsty.
I was alone.
I kept convincing myself that if I got through the first 45 minutes, then getting through the last 45 minutes would be easy.
The lies we tell ourselves.
It just kept getting hotter.
No matter how much I slowed down, my heart rate kept getting higher.
The last two miles were honestly the hardest because I wanted to be home and in the shade.
It’s these moments of mental fortitude that set us up for success on race day.
It’s in the ability to keep moving forward when you’re feeling fearful or tired or hot or scared where you find true mental strength.
Or at least that’s what I keep telling myself

This #longrun WO ala @sarahbishopruns called for 1x4m at 7:32 (.5 rest after the set) then 3x1m at 7:05 (2min recoveries between). I knew it was going to be a scorcher, workout and Mother Nature. I wanted to give effort, my best effort. And I would be OK if the paces weren’t hit given the conditions. And just that little bit of grace went a long way in allowing me to forge on full steam ahead.

90 minute easy run this morning! It was a humid one and legs are understandably a little tired from the week. Overall I am feeling really good though and am ready to pick up training for Edmonton!!! Hotels are booked so no turning back now but first rest day tomorrow which I’m like REALLY pumped about....planning to stay on the couch cuddling the pups as long as possible

When it’s 76 degrees, 97% humidity, 75 dew point, you just try and do your best. That’s all you can do. It wasn’t pretty and I took an extra 30 second break to grab ice right before the 3rd rep. By the 4th rep, I was done and a hot mess.

Sorry to my neighbors for running through their yards to get to the sprinklers-I’m sure I looked a little weird doing that! Ha! .

Earning this medal took more grit and strength than I knew I had in me. For that, my first marathon medal will always be my fav!
.
But it’s not just the 26.2. It was the early mornings and even earlier bed times. It was the workouts I feared but crushed because that’s the runner I am now. It was the two miles I could barely string together pain-free less than 365 days ago. It was was the half marathon I completed in October, on the course that broke my spirit in 2011. It was the doctor last July that told me NOTHING was wrong with me after years of trying to figure out why I couldn’t run. It was hiring a coach that believed in me.

This medal wasn’t earned Saturday from Two Harbors to Duluth. It was years of hard work and dedication.

I said yesterday that coming back from a marathon is humbling—even knowing it doesn’t make it any easier.
My average heart rate during my marathon was 165. My average heart rate today was 158 ♀️ ha.
I have to remind myself that this is part of the journey, that it’s normal, and that I will indeed run fast again. But it’s so important to come back slowly and to respect this body that completed my fastest marathon just over a week ago, so you won’t be seeing any speed from me for a bit, and I’m ok with that :)
