• An angel with King David's head - a complex story • Restored in 2016: Until recently the figure consisted of ruins. Photo 2 shows it in 2015 in the exhibition "The Lost Museum", which dealt with the destruction and huge losses caused by the major fires in 1945 in the Flak bunker in Friedrichshain. The sculpture is now in room 108 of the Bode Museum (4). It is striking that the head, unlike the body, shows no traces of the fires. . In 1382 Jacopo di Piero Guidi had made a harp-playing angel for the facade of the cathedral in Florence. The sculptures were removed at the end of the 16th century, sometime later the head of a king David was put on. The head was then removed again in the 1920s and not, like the important torso, brought into the supposedly safe bunker, so that it survived the war undamaged. . The figure (with head) was acquired in 1903. The purchase was financed by the most important patron of the Berlin museums, the Jewish merchant James Simon. .
