My experience is not that society puts this pressure on me. But I do. . . I expect myself to raise our daughter like I’m still on maternity leave. I expect to be able to keep a freezer stash of home made meals, to keep a clean and orderly home, to go on adventures that delight K as well as allow her the opportunity to learn things by herself. And honestly, I do not have time to parent and keep house the way I did for the first year of her life. I’m learning to juggle all of these things, and lower my expectations. During my days at home I long for my maternity leave days. I love spending every second with our daughter. But then it’s a work day again. . . I work as a community Physiotherapist 27 hours a week. It can be a stressful and pressured job. And I put that pressure on myself. During my working day I fully immerse myself and truly enjoy the role I have in improving peoples lives. I know that I’ve thrown myself back in to work and back into my professional role as though nothing had changed. But everything has. I cannot do everything. . .
