Before we moved to Norway I had never driven over narrow mountain roads, let alone snowy and icy mountain roads. I've never fully enjoyed driving. There's a lot of traffic on the Dutch roads and many drivers are distracted, causing very dangerous situations. Getting hit from behind on the highway a while ago did not improve the situation. It made me scared to get behind the wheel. After a lot of anxious moments and time the fear lightened, but the nerves were never complete gone.
Driving in Norway is a new experience. Around here, the danger lies more in the landscape. The road that leads to our house is soooo gorgeous, but also challenging. Most parts are narrow, making it impossible for two cars to pass. When you run into oncoming traffic (something that can happen around every other corner) you have to look for a wider piece of road to pass each other. Most of the time this happens with a friendly wave or a flash of lights. In winter the road can be slipery due to ice and snow. You can get surprised by clouds of fog, snow storms and wildlife. And sometimes, when it rains a lot, the road gets temporarily blocked by small landslides. One big adventure!
I'm proud and happy to say that though I'll always be a bit on edge, I also enjoy driving in Norway!
Oh and I already encountered a nightmare scenario when I had to back up for a massive snowplow in the dark! I couldn't see where to go and got stuck in a snowy ditch. Luckily @theendeavorist even understands what I say when I'm crying on the phone (muhuuuustuckinthesnooowhmuuu) and with some help I managed to get out. ● ⋒ ~

Definitely on my top 5 of #thingstodothisweekend - cut down the hollyhocks in the front of the house ✂️ I always procrastinate with this job, as they keep flowering (although sporadically) until first frost, and I really dislike culling these spots of colour :) But on the other hand I don't need a hundred new seedlings in the gravel come spring...

It’s berry heaven in the garden and hedgerows at the moment...a few sprigs snipped to bring indoors

Here’s one from a week’s ago when I was visiting my parents - it looks peaceful but I was stood in this spot for a ridiculous amount of time waiting for a frame free of people

You might have noticed that I archived my last post - and this is simply because it didn’t so well in terms of engagement. Before I posted it I loved the picture, but as it started to bomb I began to see everything wrong with it and start to hate it. Well, not hate, but perhaps resent it? I wanted to retire it from public view.

Do you think this is weird, or that I’m letting public reception sway my own opinion? Or would you do the same?
‘Memories’ When I create these little flatlays each piece takes me back to a special moment, place, adventure or trip. For example, the acorns are from the cemetery in Germany where we go and visit my late nan, the little pebbles with yellow lichen and dried sea plant are from our trip to Dungeness this summer, and the little seed pots are from our allotment.

In other news, I’m so excited to say that @madebymrsm has interviewed me for the @justacard blog. If you fancy a read to find out more about my work, the story behind my shop and JUST A CARD campaign, pop over to their website {link is in my profile}.
Happy Friday everyone! #simplenaturefinds #curated_nature #upandautumn
