This a public cervix update for you! Most of you already know im an over sharer, but this is an important one! for us ladies i know its difficult and embaaarrrasssssing to talk about reproductive health but here we go! Within the space of 3 weeks ive had tests, a biopsy and surgery to remove pre cancerous cells from my cervix! I am so blessed for this to have been detected so early and being able to get it treated so quickly! I had a change from low grade risk to high grade risk with dysplasia (pre cancerous cells) within a very short amount of time (within a year). It should have taken like 10yrs to change so significantly, but it took only 1yr. Both of these were diagnosed with an easy pap smear with my lovely GP whom ive seen since i was born! From there i got a referral to a speciailist gyno for a colposcopy, which is a scope and a biopsy of the cells on my cervix. This indicated i had severely abnormal cells which could potentially become cervical cancer in a few years. Soo yesterday i went in for surgery for a LLETZ - LLETZ stands for large loop excision of the transformation zone. This is a procedure to remove a segment of the cervix ill get my results in week or two of the bits theyve removed, and then i go back for another biopsy in a few months just to make sure everything is cleared. The surgery itself was fine and quick. Im in quite bit of pain and shock but at the end of the day, i can deal with that easily in comparison to cervical cancer. Sooo i am your newest pap smear preacher Cervical cancer is a progressive disease so early detection is SO important! Dont freak out that paps are awkward or embarrassing - yeah it is a little bit. Buuut its a tonne better than potentially having cervical cancer!? Speak to your family and friends about it, speak to your doctor. If you want a pap go get one, if you want STI screening go get it done, if you want a pelvic exam get it done, go get a breast screening. Heck go and get all 4 done at once and then you dont even need to stress about it for years! Ill be tucked in bed with a heatpack binging netflix for the next few days! Love to you all!
