The speculum most women experience today has a dark and racist history. Now, it’s set for an overdue redesign
.
.
An all-women team at design firm Frog are investigating how to redesign the speculum in ways that centre around women’s needs and experiences: comfort, dignity, and reducing the embarrassment and fear that comes with the current speculum
.
.
The (working) result is Yona: an early-stage experience design concept that reimagines pelvic examinations from the patient’s perspective. The Yona concept includes a redesigned speculum, digital experience, and physical exam room improvements

Why this SPINAL MOVILIZATION exercise, “the cat cow stretch” is a MUST for almost any women’s health condition?
1️⃣ #pelvicpain ? #groinpain ? #pregnancyrelatedpain? #endometriosis ? #painfulsitting ? #interstitialcystitis? #menstrualcramps ? the movilization + the stretch of the front myofascial chain during the #catcowstretch is a gentle exercise to perform in your rehab program, at the beginning of any exercise program or just whenever you need to help relieve the pain symptoms.
2️⃣ #backpain ? #pregnancyrelatedlowbackpain ?
This is another must because of the spinal movement and stretch of the posterior myofascial chain as well!!! Also, this is a neural mobilization that will improve sliding of your spinal nerves!
Although this exercise is known for its help with back pain, it’s application for abdominal and pelvic pain symptoms is less known!
What is the key ? 3️⃣ The BREATHING !!! ♂️♀️ ✔️INHALE
When you inhale try to do a deep belly breathing to feel the stretch in the abdominal area and the #pelvicfloor ! Take your time!
while you lift your chin to feel the whole stretch go from pubis to neck progressively! Keep the stretching position for some seconds! ✔️ EXHALE
During the exhale phase and spinal flexion perform a deep deep deep exhalation where you feel how you draw-in progressively your #transversusabdominis it will be more like a deep forced exhalation to help recruit the inner core unit in opposition to the previous abdominal abdominal elongation!
This mobilization stretch will involve almost all your back and front muscles ! If you add the specific breathing pattern the deep core unit will fire up !
Denfinetly one of my favorite #lowpressure Exercises! I use it all the time for #womenshealth Specific issues!
Any questions? ask me at @dr.tamararial !

Perineal Stretching? Why would I need to do that?
Well, do any of the following sound familiar?
-Painful urination
-Constipation
-Pain with sex
-Difficult urination
-Pelvic pain
-Difficult penetration
-Tail bone pain
-Painful scars due to episiotomy or tearing
Friends- the above symptoms are frequently associated with overactive pelvic floor muscles.
You may be wondering “What can I do to help myself?” Well, let’s put it into perspective. If your leg muscle is tight and cramping, what would you do? Stretch it, massage it, and rehab it right? The same concept applies to the pelvic floor!
Above are some of my favorite stretches for the perineum that frequently help with overactive pelvic floor muscles.
Bonus: During stretching, take some deep breaths and intentionally lengthen and release your pelvic floor muscles as you exhale.
Any other tips that work for you? Have you tried these before? Let me know if you have any questions. ❤️Jeanice * IF you have pelvic organ prolapse, the deep squatting position may not be best for you. The PFM are in a stretched dependent position.
*As with all programs, listen to your body and stop if something doesn’t feel right. This does not replace medical advice from your healthcare provider.

Bring Awareness of endometriosis symptoms The above list (courtesy of @endo_graphic) describes some of the more common symptoms which many endo sufferers may experience! Endometriosis is a functionally unique tissue, which resembles the lining of uterus, but it acts differently in its own ways! (I will post more info in the future). Thus, Endo causes ongoing bleedings, tissue breakdown, cysts, inflammation and scarring inside your body. It is important for women (and their families) to recognize these symptoms of endometriosis! Please seek help from your doctor early if you suffer from any of the above symptoms. And Lets spread awareness of “endo symptoms” to your community and friends! Thank you. People talk like there is something we can do to make us better. Like we’ve done something to cause this illness and it’s our faults that it affects our lives. With invisible illness comes stigma & judgement by strangers, medical professionals and even our friends and family. They can’t understand what they can’t see. People say things like, “lose weight”, “do yoga”, “exercise” as if they’re magically going to cure my illnesses. Yes, some things help with symptom management but the reality is there is no cure and no doubt we will have ups and downs. I just think ignorance & patronising us is unnecessary.
It’s important to remember that it isn’t your fault. You didn’t ask for this life & you don’t need to justify yourself to anyone.

We are not all the same, Our bodies are unique. We are not “one size fits all.” What you personally experience, might not be the same thing someone else personally experiences. What works for you, might not work for others.
Pads, tampons, diva cups, birth control, pain medications, diet changes, fertility treatments, etc.. Just... don’t hate on someone for doing something differently than you do.
We. Are. All. Different. And. That’s! Okay!
Everyone’s experience is just as creditable as yours, don’t forget that
