Floresta das Trevas (também conhecida como *Mirkwood, a Floresta Verde). Localizada a leste dos vales do Anduin.Desde tempos remotos o nome da Floresta que veio a ficar conhecida como "das Trevas" era uma Grande Floresta Verde, sendo seus grandes salões e corredores abrigos de muitos animais. Na floresta também reinava Thranduil, que vivia com seu povo em paz, mantendo relações comerciais com os homens do Valle. Mas depois de tempos um medo aliado a uma escuridão começaram a surgir no Sul e com o tempo grande parte do lugar estava sombria, tendo sido o canto dos pássaros substituído pelo som de animais ferozes que ali vinham para caçar, bem como o de criaturas cruéis e nefastas. Foi então que se deu a mudança de nome, desde essa época o lugar passou a ser conhecido como Floresta das Trevas e um dos únicos refúgios dentro dela era o Norte aonde Thranduil e seu povo conseguiam manter o mal a uma determinada distância. Com o tempo descobriu-se que espécie de mal havia se propagado desde o sul da Floresta, tratava-se da sombra de Sauron, anunciando o seu retorno. ‘‘Numa colina escura, ele fez sua morada e ali criava seus feitiços. E todo o povo temia o Feiticeiro de Dol Guldur, e no entanto de início eles não sabiam como era enorme o risco que corriam''. Foi então que com a ajuda de Saruman (a última vez em que ele ajuda o Conselho Branco), Sauron foi expulso de Dol Guldur e a Floresta voltou a viver em paz por um tempo. Mais tarde, quando Sauron já havia sido derrotado e o Um anel destruído, Celeborn e Thranduil encontraram-se no meio da Floresta das Trevas e rebatizaram-na de Eryn Lasgalen, A Floresta das Folhas Verdes. .
