I don't usually pull pics from online but I just learned about direct contact boilers today and just amazed! We spend all this effort with exchangers to keep the flame off the water and some genius goes $@#& it let's put the fire right in the water. You do need and external exchanger to make it potable but you get a boiler that has no condensate , 96-100 percent efficency , no hot flue gases, on demand hot water in large quantities, the water also helps filter combustion air and a few other perks....literally amazed although not sure the longevity. Operation cost are substantially lower. Has anyone had the privilege of working on these or installing? Another reason why having a hvac press tool is a massive time saver... This unit was getting moved up the wall due to some landscaping being done. Trying to bend 5/8 copper neatly and efficiently in tight places is such a pain so these bends were pre made and crimped. We then secured the unit on the wall about 1800mm higher than before and simply joined the two ends together.
