INSTAGRAM: Just sitting here on my hand dyed vintage rug, watching my kids play quietly while sipping my lemon ice water. I can't believe this is my life! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ REALITY: I vacuumed this clearance Walmart rug for the first time ever since buying it in December (normally I just shake it out good and sweep that up), because someone with an immaculate house was coming over and I felt intimidated. I'd plopped on the couch after vacuuming and was watching Ione play Barbie funeral (it was strange) and making a list of what else I could do to spiff the place up. If I slid the loveseat over it'd hide the crayon on the wall (mental mote, put Magic Erasers on next week's shopping list). Spoiler, I didn't move the love seat. In fact I noticed the pretty light coming in and that is was less yellow than normal, leaned forward off the couch to snap a shot, and realized how stained the outsides of my Walmart shoes are (seeing a pattern to my shopping?). But hey! Cross my feet and stains disappear! Snap photo, sit back and decide I was going to get up and clean more. Look at food splatters on wall by the dinner table and decide to go take care of those since we'd be sitting right there. Wonder why I don't notice those in the moment but only when someone is coming over. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Some people want the Instagram life...I kinda love the real life story, even if it was me scrubbing my house because I felt insecure. Embrace your real life story. The triumphs and the insecurities are all a part of your story, and I think it's what makes our stories infinitely more interesting than any fake Instagram life, don't you?! At first I kinda wished I’d had cute pants and shoes when I happened on this instead of legit man pants and tennis shoes (I’ve always hated wearing tennis shoes), but I didn’t. So I almost took the photo of just the sidewalk. But I wanted to remember being there. I wanted to remember what I was doing and what choices I was making that day to try and be a better human. I wanted the real moment, not the styled shot. Because real life is beautiful and there is power in those moments, and I wanted that reminder to be a better human.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What can you do today to be fully present and to be a better human?
