Hello friends! It’s been a while since I did this, so I thought I’d give you an update on what I’ve been reading recently and my brief thoughts on each book: . The Farm by Joanne Ramos - I enjoyed this book and was pretty gripped by it, but overall it wasn’t as sinister or dystopian as I had expected and I found that a bit of a letdown. 3.5/5 . The Good Lord Bird by James McBride - this was such a disappointing read for me! Partly fictional and partly historically accurate, I felt the book couldn’t quite work out what it was, and I felt the plot suffered as a result. I persevered with it only because I bought it during my time in the States, otherwise I would have left this unfinished. 2/5 . Ghachar Ghochar by Vivek Shanbhag- I read this in a day and enjoyed it! It’s a quick read about a family dealing with newfound wealth in contemporary India. A very interesting look at family dynamics. 4/5 . The Life of Death by Lucy Booth - I enjoyed the concept of this book and if you’re looking for a quick (and pretty dark) read, you’ll probably enjoy this. The author died from cancer after completing this book, and I think you can see traces of her thinking, and ultimately the unfairness of death, all over this book. . Ordinary People by Diana Evans - I adored this book! The characters are amazing and I found the prose so realistic. I’ll talk more about this book in another post, but suffice to say I loved it. 5/5 . The Reluctant Fundamentalist by Mohsin Hamid – This book is interesting, but it’s not the most enjoyable read. In theory, I’m very interesting in Hamid’s books, but after having read both Exit West and The Reluctant Fundamentalist, I just find his writing overly complicated and pretty obscure. Perhaps it would benefit from a slower read and study time, but I’m not convinced. 3/5 . Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys - Good lord this was a struggle for me! Again, maybe I need to study this book to really see its worth but I couldn’t wait to reach the end. 2/5 . Let me know if you’ve read any of these books and what you thought of them! . p.s. gifted items are tagged

Wraz z przyjaciółmi planuje więc wyprawę do tamtego świata, by uwolnić Subiektów z obozów pracy. Reszta opinii jak zawsze w komentarzu⬇️ #melissadarwood #wysłannicy #cedyno #czytamfantastykę #readingfantasy #goodbook #bestbook #bookreviews #bookrecommendation #recommendedbooks #polecamksiążkę #czytamy #lubimyczytać #bookstagram #booktoread #bookish #booksoutofdoors #bookpost #czytanienieboli #czytaniejestsexy #czytampolskichautorów #polskaczyta #onaczyta #ksiazkanadzis #książkawplenerze #polskiegóry #uwielbiamgóry #szczeliniecwielki

Hi friends. Ask me anything today, I can take it!⁣ ⁣ #bookreadhappyhour | 12 July | Ombre spines⁣ How satisfying is it to do a spine photo with books that you’ve actually read? I’m 100% satisfied right now.⁣ ⁣ So as I cut this caption short in order to destroy my goal of 4k words today, here is a bloody #JulyofSciFi speculative spine mashup I am calling “From Vicious to Vengeful.”⁣ ⁣ //golf claps//⁣ ⁣ Post Script: all five of these books walk the line of genre, pushing the boundaries of the label they were given. That, to me, is some damn good sci-fi. I recommend all of these books. ↯⁣ See ya, scoundrels.⁣ ______________________________________⁣ #bookstagram #putabladeonit

In Immunity, @heyerin has upped the stakes, giving the survivors of a deadly planetary outbreak a new, sinister adversary to battle, making this another white-knuckle, late-night read, or as New York Times bestselling author Amie Kaufman called it “gripping, thrilling and terrifying in equal measures.” Yep. Your favorite literary found family is here to recruit you! What squad are you joining?⁣ ⁣ #bookreadhappyhour | 9 June | I look at you and I'm home | Found families⁣ Oh look! A whole day of the happy hour devoted to one of my all-time favorite tropes. Nothing more fun than mashing a bunch of different, unrelated personalities together on a spaceship and watching them figure out that maybe they actually like each other a little after all. Or not. That’s cool, as long as there’s some snarky, sarcastic dialogue and saving of each others’ asses, I’m happy. The Howlers in the Red Rising Saga. The Wayfarer crew in Long Way to a Small Angry Planet. A hot-shot racer finding her place on the rusty old Capricious in Big Ship & Bad Deal. I can’t even think about Obisido without getting all emotional (those of you who’ve read it, you know the part I mean.)⁣ ⁣ //sniffles//⁣ ⁣ Did I mean to feature all sci-fi today? Honestly, no. I could easily do this stack with a bunch of fantasy reads as well. I mean, I would totally join up with Nona Grey at the Convent of Sweet Mercy, and I’d follow Yukiko and Buruu anywhere. But today I’m hauling ass through the void with Capricious. Boots and I have some drinking to do. What squad are you joining today?⁣ ↯⁣ See ya, scoundrels.⁣ _______________________________________⁣ #booksofbroadway | the impossible dream | space. sigh.⁣ _______________________________________⁣ #bookstagram #scifisunday

What series are you eagerly (or impatiently) waiting for the next book to release?⁣ ⁣ #bookreadhappyhour | 5 July | Drawing makes you look at the world more closely. | Illustrations⁣ It wouldn’t be a month of science fiction recommendations if I didn’t thrust Red Rising in your eyeholes.⁣ ⁣ So here. Red Rising. For your eyes.⁣ ⁣ This series is not messing around. It’s epic. And this B&N exclusive edition of the first book has illustrations and howler endpapers. No, I’m not lying. And yes, although book five, Dark Age, lands on shelves 30th July, you could happily read the first three books, with the satisfying ending of Morning Star, and then wait until the remaining books are published to continue.⁣ ⁣ Happily, I said!!⁣ ⁣ Well. That took a turn.⁣ ⁣ Besides the completion of the Red Rising Saga, I’m also watching the clock for the third book in the Salvagers Trilogy by Alex White, the Empires of Dust Series by Anna Smith Spark, and a little known indie book called Darkdawn. Not sure if you’ve heard of the author. He’s kind of shy.⁣ ↯⁣ See ya, scoundrels.⁣ ______________________________________⁣ #divaishjuly | Sci-Fi or fantasy. | Sci-Fi For-Evah!⁣ ______________________________________⁣ #bookstagram #julyofscifi #putabladeonit

My top 8 reads of 2018 Actually I had nine favourite books this year but number one, my hands down best book of the year and possibly my life was The Brothers Karamazov by Dostoevsky. It’s not pictured here because I felt I had to send it out into the world to be enjoyed by another. I wholeheartedly recommend it if you want to reaffirm your belief in the intellectual and emotional capability of man, although there are many of us here who would argue that Dosty was more than a mere mortal. It’s the kind of book that reminded me why I read in the first place; to experience the power of words first hand and to be inwardly changed by them. My second favourite was Knut Hamsun’s Growth of the Soil. This novel is part family saga, part natural observation and more besides. I didn’t know what to expect but Hamsun’s way of describing both the vast Norwegian landscape and the minutiae of one man’s family life, and inextricably linking these two together, made me want to read so much more of his work. The rest of the books on my list in no particular order: •Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi •The Iliad •The Sailor Who Fell from Grace with the Sea by Yukio Mishima • A Dog’s Heart by Mikhail Bulgakov •Memoirs of a Dutiful Daughter by S. de Beauvoir • Chess Story, S. Zweig • Night, Elie Wiesel What were your favourite books this year? #books #reading #bookstagramfeatures #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookphoto #vsco #vscobooks #vscoreads #bookclubcollective #met_createchange #goodreads #booksandbeans #booksbooksbooks #culturetripbooks #penguinclassics #russianliterature #literary #lifestyle #bibliophile #bookworm #bookcollection #bookfeaturepage #bookflatlay #readersofinstagram #whatiread #booksofinstagram #thefinchbook #recommendedbooks
