I’m just eating up @katiearnold book! I loved this excerpt about the flow state we can tap into while running: “in the early 1990s, the Hungarian psychologist Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi coined the term ‘flow’ to describe an ‘almost automatic, effortless, yet highly focused state of consciousness.’ When were immersed in flow, cognitive thoughts drop away, creativity surged and time becomes fluid. Hours may pass in what feels like a minute, or a minute might stretch for hours. Circumstances seem to fall into place, aligning at the right time, and coincidences abound, a phenomenon Carl Jung called ‘synchronicity.’ In sports, low is often called ‘the zone’, a state of consciousness where the body and mind move in harmony and we achieve greatness with less perceived effort. .
.
.
Csikszentmihalyi discovered that people who are in flow become so engrossed in the activity that they don’t notice distractions and they forget to feel self conscious. ‘We might even feel that we have stepped out of the boundaries of the ego and have become part, at least temporarily, or a larger entity.’ .

- Meine mangelhafte Rechtschreibung korrigieren
- Jedes Video probegucken
- mich filmen
- Fragen im Video stellen
- Postsendungen bearbeiten
- Termine koordinieren

The last section of the Ouray 100 is a beastly 5000’ ascent up to what is called the Bridge of Heaven. RD @johnston.charles was telling me before I left the aid station in those wee hours of the morning that we would be lucky and get to see the amazing views from the lookout in the morning light. In my delirium, I didn’t think much about it, but was grateful to know that the sun would soon be rising (again).
.
This climb took hours and hours as I was going at perhaps 45 to 50 min/mile pace for 5+ miles. We watched the sun come up and were encouraged by the other runners coming down from the top expressing how incredible it was to be up there. That was motivating enough for me as I was grasping onto anything I could possibly use to keep me moving forward.
.
Getting to the top of this overlook was just magical. At 12,300 feet, you could look out across the valley and see every single peak, pass, and climb which I had traveled in the previous two days. It was humbling and invigorating. I will savor that memory forever.
.
I am an average person and a stubborn athlete, but I hope that there’s different points in my life where I can look back over paths and peaks in my life and feel the same gratitude, contentment and satisfaction that I felt here. I know that’s not the case all the time, and definitely there’s regret and issues that everyone must go through - that’s life. However, keeping a steady eye on the end result will make the smaller things we come across seem much more tolerable.✌

Saturday was monumental for me. It was 10 miles on the trail with almost no knee pain! It was the first run I’ve done where I haven’t thought about the pain with every step. Next week marks 6 months since ACL surgery. Three months ago, I questioned weather running would be in future again, one month ago I concluded I’d just have to run through pain forever, and last weekend I found hope that neither would be the case! I’m happy I haven’t given up. I’ve wanted to, believe me! I’m happy I diligently did my PT day in and day out. I’m happy I’ve learned to listen to my body, and give it rest when it needs it. And I’m so gosh darn happy to be back in the mountains again!

The more I see of Utah, the more in love I am with it. Currently looking out the windshield at Bryce to the North and rugged mountains to the West while being surrounded by pines, aspens and nothing but green green meadows, wildflowers and flowing streams. This is living life to the fullest to me - nothing but dirt roads, body wipe showers, increasingly spotting cell service which means lots of story telling and conversation and so much awe-evoking nature my heart could explode
Spent Saturday chasing clouds with 500 other rowdy trail friends of mine. I’ve always thought that there is just something different about a person who chooses to climb up and over mountains, descent boulder fields, and skate on snowy terrain. Maybe we ARE just a little strange, OR maybe, just maybe...we know something you don’t know. Maybe we are the ones doing it right.
