THE DISASTROUS GOVERNMENT OF TSARINA ALEXANDRA FEODOROVNA:
The departure of Nicholas of Petrograd because of World War I and the his removal from the civil government left a void that the Tsarina Alexandra felt obliged to fill. Leaving the sickbed, she decided to give Russia something that she visibly considered a real autocracy lesson. She didn’t understand anything about how to govern a country. In only four days after Nicholas's departure, she started firing ministers with a huge speed. The entire war effort of the government was transformed into a personal struggle between those whom she considered favorable and those that she considered unfavorable to the entrance of Russia in the war. The ministers who had asked the tsar not to take command of the army were systematically dismissed by the Tsarina. Anyone who suggested that it might be wise to work with the Duma was also fired. Anyone she did not like or who in her opinion opposed it or criticized Rasputin also was dismissed. Her letters to Nicholas were full of references to "our friend" (Rasputin) and of demands for removal from ministers. "How I wish I could hang Rodzianko (the Duma president), a terrible and rather insolent man," she wrote in the letter to Nicholas. She exhorted her husband to be assertive and autocratic. Alexandra dispensed ministers with enormous speed. She wanted that the ministers to have hatred of the Duma and respect for Rasputin. Her favorite minister was Alexander Protopopov, a former representative in the Duma who prospered because of Rasputin and was considered mentally unstable or insane.

THE FIRST PUBLIC BALL OF THE GRAND DUCHESS OLGA NIKOLAEVNA - THE BALL OF THE 300 YEARS OF THE ROMANOV DYNASTY:
February 23, 1913 was a day very special for Grand Duchess Olga Nikolaevna, at the age of eighteen, when, accompanied by her father, mother and aunt, Olga Alexandrovna, she attended her first major public ball in St. Petersburg, in the Assembly of the Nobles, in homage to the 300 years of the Romanov dynasty. She was adorable, wearing a plain pink chiffon dress. Just as in her sixteen-year-old ball in Livadia, Olga also danced all the dances, having fun simply and enthusiastically as any girl would do at her first public ball. In post, we see the imperial cabin at the bottom, some members of the imperial family as the tsar Nicholas II, the Empresses Alexandra and Maria Feodorovna, the Grand Duchess Elizabeth Mavrikievna, the Grand Dukes Konstantin Konstantinovich, Nicholas and Peter Nikolaevich and, at the center of the post, the Grand Duchess Olga dancing happily.

THE TSAR NICHOLAS II ONLY LISTENED TO THE ADVICE OF HIS WIFE AND NO ONE ELSE: In the last months of 1916 and early in 1917, one after another, the interlocutors tried to warn Nicholas to the bomb under the throne: the country's indignation and the aggravation brought about by the terrible influence of Rasputin and the disastrous interference of the empress. But he kept silent at all warnings. Any opposition, at this point, was synonymous with betrayal. The Grand Duke Nicholas Mikhailovich, Sandro's brother, known for his liberal constitutional convictions, returned from England in November 1916 with the news that the king George V (cousin of Nicholas II) was very concerned because "well-informed agents of the British Secret Service were predicting a revolution in the very near future in Russia." The Grand Duke wrote to Tsar Nicholas a letter urging him to get rid of Rasputin and to promote the reforms proposed by the Duma before it was too late. Nicholas handed the letter to Alix who declared herself angry and told her husband to send Nicholas Mikhailovich to Siberia. At the end of 1916, Ella, the sister of Alix, left the convent where she had lived since 1905 to exhort her to send Rasputin away. "She despatched me like a dog," Ella reported. The Grand Duke shouted furious: “Remember, Alix, I was silent for thirty months. For thirty months I have never told you a word about the misfortunes that occur in our government, or, rather, in her government. I understand that you wants to destroy herself and her husband feels the same thing, but what about us? You don’t have the right to drag your relatives down the cliff with you”, but Alix wrote to Nicholas hysterical denunciations against members of the Duma and dismissal demands from ministers and also told him: "Be strong and all will bow down before you." #tsarnicholasii #tsarinaalexandra #grandduchesselizabethfeodorovna #romanovfamily #granddukealexandermikhailovich #granddukenicholas #prerevolution #russianmonarchy #alexandrafeodorovna #nicholasii #oldrussia #imperialrussia #theromanovs #romanovs #imperialfamily #houseofromanov #monarchy #russianmonarchy

THE NOVEL BY THE GRAND DUKE DMITRI ROMANOV WITH THE FAMOUS DESIGNER “COCO” CHANEL: During the Russian Revolution of 1917, the Grand Duke Dmitri Pavlovich Romanov, one of the assassins of Rasputin and cousin of the ex-emperor Nicholas II, escaped, with the help of England, to London, during the wave of assassinations of Romanov family members, including his direct relatives and his aunt Elizabeth Feodorovna (the only mother he had ever met), his father and his half-brother Vladimir Paley, the fruit of Grand Duke Paul's second marriage. The Dmitri's sister, the Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna, opened her own clothing sequin business in Paris, eventually doing a lot of work for Chanel and Dimitri also made his living in Paris as a champagne salesman. It was due to her sister's connection with the Chanel that the Grand Duke Dmitri met the famous designer Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, eleven years older. The two began their affair in the spring of 1921 after they first met in Paris. The couple tried to keep the affair as discreet as possible to avoid any scandal. They did this by moving from Paris to Monte Carlo during the off season for privacy. Her relationship with Dmitri made her draw clothes with embroidered of Russian folklore and, for that, she hired 20 embroiderers. In this period, Chanel met many important artists such as Pablo Picasso, Luchino Visconti and Greta Garbo. The relationship lasted for about a year before they decided to part ways. Through the contacts of Dmitri and his sister in the industry, the Chanel met several perfumers in Grasse, in the South of France which subsequently led to the creation of the famous Chanel No. 5 perfume. #granddukedmitripavlovich #dmitripavlovich #romanovfamily#cocochanel#thecoco #romanov_dynasty#thechanels#romanovs#chanelcoco#famousdesigner#theromanovfamily#romanov#grandduke#romanceinparis#imperialfamily#affair#imperialrussia#russianmonarchy#chaneln5#romanovdynasty
