It was part of my trousseau, and remains one of my favourite sarees. This was long before Oprah Winfrey wore a black Sabyasachi Tilla saree for Elle and made a statement, btw! I wore this bottle-green saree with the satin blouse that came with it which I enhanced with gold brocade sleeves. . . . Kashmir has always been blessed with many art forms that require immense skill and precision. Kashmiri Tilla, being one of them has always been top notch when it comes to embroidery work and particularly when an artist masters this art, it sets high standards. Tilla is an ornamental work where Silver threads are delicately tied over the fabric to create exquisite designs. The process is complicated and requires a lot of patience and precision. It can be found in both handmade and machine applied forms. On several occasions, this work is made on order within a stipulated period of time. The cost depends on the quantity of Tilla used. From what I’ve been told, like other traditional art forms, the art of Tilla making is also diminishing with the passage of time. The new generation is not going to take its physically taxing toll upon them.
