simple, practical projects are my absolute favorites so it’s no surprise that these foldover pouches are one of my very favorite projects in my book That Handmade Touch. (photo by @bijoulovely ) * I’ve had a few people asking which ones/ if any, of my existing patterns are included in the book and the answer is NONE. All 20 patterns included in my book are brand new. Some techniques might overlap, of course, since there are only so many ways one can add handles or zippers, but none of the designs are the same as my self published patterns . #thathandmadetouch #sotakhandmade #sotakpatterns #pouch #handmadepouch #bagmaker #imakebags #craftbook #sewingbook #sewist #isew #clutch

A dress I made from scratch for the Holidays last year. I already have a design in my mind for a Holiday dress this year, it’ll be worth the wait. . A question for the sewists out there, which do you find more difficult? Refashioning or making from scratch? I personally find making from scratch so much harder because with refashioning, I’m tweaking it while trying to keep the original darts, button holes, zippers, and the pockets. But I’ve run into many whom are in awe at what I do and say they can’t do what I do but to them I say, I’m in awe at what they do and can’t do what they do! We all have different strengths and weaknesses and it’s important to give ourselves credit and the respect for our strengths, and dwell less on our weaknesses.

The finished #kellyanorak I made this version for my best friend @ntynt2 and I can’t wait to see her wearing it! She is smaller than me so I cut a size 4 and took out 1.5 inches from the length and the sleeves. From my grey version I learnt that using cotton lawn as the lining is not the best idea as it isn’t as easy to slide the sleeves on as it would be for a typical silky lining. I had this really nice quality plum coloured lining in my stash from a trip to Goldhawk Road and thought it went perfectly with the mustard. It works much better as a jacket lining than the cotton lawn. Fabric is the Robert Kaufman mustard yellow ventana cotton twill from @sewmesunshine.uk I have seen a few versions of this pattern made using this fabric in the various colours and it does work perfectly! It is soft but still has the structure you need for the jacket, and comes in lots of different colours! I once again enjoyed making up this pattern, the instructions are so easy to follow! I already have a few winter versions I plan to make. But for now I am excited to move on and start planning some summer sewing projects ☀️ Hope everyone is finding some time to sew this weekend ✂️

We already spoke about the cap height, now for the cap width! A good starting point for determining your cap width for a blouse can be found using this method. . . 1. Put your muslin/toile on. (I used a sleeveless dress so it would be easier for you to see the simulation) 2. Sew a piece of elastic together and place it on the bicep area, aligning it to the bottom of your armhole when the arm is relaxed. (Check the Position in the mirror) 3. Mark about 2-3” down from your shoulder tip and remember that measurement for marking your pattern. 4. Mark your ”across back” area at around that same height on the back of your arm. 5. Place a piece of tape on the end of a measuring tape and tape it to the across back area. 6. Then wrap it around to the across front along that 2-3” mark you’ve made. 7. When the arm is relaxed, you get a shorter measurement. (This could be used for knit tops) 8. As you lift the arm up, the measurement increases. This measurement is a good starting point for woven blouses/tops. . . I hope this is an easy and helpful method for you in determining your cap width! #happysewing #happypatternmaking

I sewed myself a crop top + revived a vintage skirt but, a certain someone pouting overshadowed my new make. Look at that Thumper foot in my elbow nook. Do y’alls pets pout like this? ‍♀️❤️ #LadyThackeryBinx
