I struggled for 8 years, acting according to fleshly desires instead of God's desires. I lied to myself. I wasted so much precious energy. But in God's economy, nothing goes to waste. He taught me so much in the struggle and continues to use my past to keep me humble and to help others. If you feel trapped in sin, know that you aren't alone. Know that you don't have to stay stuck. There is freedom on the other side! The struggle is real, and the amazing freedom is worth the fight! How did I find this freedom? 1. PRAYER. I prayed daily. I kept prayer journals. I prayed that Lord's Prayer, the Serenity Prayer, and cuddled with God in silence, listening for His voice. I read His Word. I filled my mind with prayerful music (Casting Crowns, Rebecca St. James, Lecrae, Tori Kelly, Hillsong, Bethel Music, etc.) 2. REPENTANCE. I grieved my sin. I fell on my face before the Lord, sobbed on the carpet in my room, asked for forgiveness, and committed to live how He was calling me to live, even though I didn't always feel capable. Then I repeated that over and over again. 3. ACCOUNTABILITY. I confessed my sins to the close people in my life. I have friends who I tell everything to, who I trust and respect. I sought out mentorship. I went through rounds of counseling. I attended countless Celebrate Recovery meetings and worked through the 12 steps. I sought out healing to break the chains of generational bondage and prayed fervently with my Christian sisters. 4. PURPOSE. I realized that God has big plans for me, and I realized how my sin was keeping me from living into that purpose for my life. I found purpose in the journey on the way to freedom so that I could live out God's will with all my heart, rather than with my heart going in various conflicting directions. **continued in the comments
