(1/2) Last night I uncovered deep rooted trauma buried beneath layers of dissociative behavior. The disassociation came as a result of a sexual assault that happened 13 years ago at the age of 18. At the time of the incident, I had zero tools to manage my emotions. That lack of psychological support eventually manifested as pelvic floor dysfunction, a crippling condition that had me seeking disability at age 27. . New, but very old, information resurfaced while working in a safe container with ketamine. I was not intending on doing this work, but my familiarity with this medicine allowed me to trust the journey it took me on ~ into the ambulance and through the police reports, baring witness to combative behaviors from broken trust. Insert *shame* - a painful feeling of humiliation or distress caused by the consciousness of wrong or foolish behavior. We all carry shame & experience its weight at varying degrees. A lot of times, the shame is out of place and the wrong person holds it. In the case of my sexual assault, I had been miscarrying massive shame around the incident...
