We’ve had a blast celebrating this one’s birthday. I will do a sappy post about how awesome he is on my personal account, don’t worry! But, as I was thinking about the past 4 years, I can’t help but feel grateful for how far we’ve come and even a little proud. Yes, proud! . . ➡️ I am proud that I chose to parent even in the midst of serious devastation, shame, fear and doubt. . ➡️ I am proud that I made the hard choice to bring my son back to California for some stability and lots of family. Even though I didn’t want to. . ➡️ I am proud that, since becoming a mom, I have pursued some dreams that were dormant for awhile and that I help other moms to do the same. . ➡️ I am proud that I didn’t let my shame keep me from continuing to grow in my faith and dependence on God. . ➡️ I am proud that I get up every day and do what I gotta do as a mom. . ➡️ I am proud that I have been able to work from home since my son was born! . . We all have things to be proud of as moms. The “simple” act of waking up every day and choosing to care for someone else’s needs often over your own is HUGE and that alone should be celebrated. . . So, today, I celebrate my son but I also celebrate ME. I think you should go ahead and join in and we’ll celebrate you, too! . . What are you proud of as a mom?

I snapped this pic of myself on Monday while we were at the pool. I did not swim because it was nowhere near warm enough but my son got in with his two cousins. . . Later that evening, I thought about how just last year I would have had to brave the cold and get in with my son. . . The total dependence stage can feel like it will never end, but it does. I’m glad I made a decision early on to never say “I can’t wait until” but I am also grateful for a stage with a bit more independence. . . If you are in that “never-ending” season, just know that it won’t always be like this. You will one day shower again alone (or so I’ve heard, I’m still about 50/50), be able to sit poolside, read a book, go on vacation kid-free and so much more. There is light at the end of the tunnel, even if you do not see it yet. . . Keep going, Mama, and in case no one has told you today... YOU ROCK!
