Ten years ago, we started Printfresh We rented space across the street in a tiny studio and began creating the very first collection. The first years were challenging, in so many ways, There were the challenges of setting up our studio space, understanding the market, and trying to build a client list. Ten years in some ways feels like a very short time - in the first years I couldn’t fathom that we would be so lucky to have made it to year 10. It’s crazy when I think back to when we created our online shop (not knowing if we would ever be able to ever sell prints online!). Or when we first came over to @paperboxstudios before construction started when the windows were boarded up and the space was dilapidated (it’s come a long way!) . Hi! I’m Mary. Since we have lots of new followers here (thank you!), I thought I’d take a minute to introduce myself: My belly is currently much larger than in this photo (), and I’m the co owner/operator of Chris + Mary. I’m responsible for most of the buying, merchandising and day to day responsibilities at our shop. As a freelance yoga instructor & massage therapist by trade, my transition into owning & running a small brick & mortar business over the last 2 years has been challenging for sure, but totally worth it. Connecting with people in our community & supporting mission-driven brands & amazingly creative/passionate humans are some of my favorite parts of this biz. My least favorites? Website maintenence, doing inventory & trying to keep up with marketing & accounting. I’m physically in the shop at least 4 days a week and mentally/behind the scenes 8 days a week. To me, ‘dream big’ has always been a flowery phrase and a nice concept. I was told to dream big when I went off to college and when I graduated college and as I decided what to do with my life. But lately, without being told to and without even telling myself to, I have given myself a little freedom to begin dreaming about what my small business dreams could actually turn into. I’ve been listening to podcasts, Skillshare classes, YouTube videos, trying to soak up knowledge about the best route to take and how to keep pursuing my dream. I want to launch product lines, host more classes, participate in craft fairs, create a website, and all the other fun small business-y stuff! I’m really ready to pour myself into this creative outlet that I love so much! . But here’s the thing: it’s a process. As much as I would like to fully jump into it tomorrow, I have class tomorrow. And homework tonight. And dinner to cook. And laundry to do. Not to mention the million+ decisions that will have to be made in the process of jumping in. It’s all competing for my attention: as I read for class I’m thinking about my biz. As I’m working on branding research, I’m thinking about all the school I have to do. It’s a tangled web and it’s kind of driving me crazy! But at the same time, it’s a huge reminder to me that all the things I’m involved in (wifedom, school, small biz, relationships) are so important to me! It’s a busy and conflicting season of life, but I know it’s going to lead to great things because God has given me all these passions and will show me where to go with them. Hi everyone! Today marks the first day of #instatidechallenge and i figured that it would be a great way to introduce myself to those who have no idea who is behind the pretty pink studio. But also for those who do know me, learn a little more about me. To be honest, I'm not one to talk about myself on social media, especially to people who I don't know. Why? Well... 1️⃣ I'm terrified of what people think. It's something that I've dealt with my entire life, and I always forget to just ignore and not care what people think. I always have this voice in my head that tells me that I'm not talented enough, pretty enough, smart enough, or not skinny enough. I'm pretty hard on myself. 2️⃣I went to school for Fashion arts, graduated then couldn't find a job. I continued to work at the library while deciding to pursue my education in Communications Studies. I now work full-time as a Children's Librarian and combining my education, artistic talent and love for children's books. 3️⃣ I really want to write a children's book one day. I've got this immense desire to write and illustrate one but I never find the time or I avoid the process because I feel like I can never achieve my dream. 4️⃣ @papyrus is my favourite store and I'd love to one day see my artwork there. I actually submitted a bunch of my artwork so we shall see if this dream will come true. 5️⃣ I've lived with my father and my brother since the age of 13. It was the best decision I ever made. My father is my rock. He's the strongest most independent hardworking man I know with a heart filled with so much love and care for his children. 6️⃣ I'm getting married to my best friend on Oct 21, 2017!! I can't wait to walk the line with him (yes that's a Johnny Cash reference - loveeeee him) Soooo now that you know a bit more about me, introduce yourself so I can learn more about you #maker
