DAY 7 of my YTT adventure is our day off, so we took a nice trek through our neighborhood! This has been such an incredible journey so far, it feels like time has stopped and I’ve been able to just connect with nature, myself, and immerse into so much learning in such a short window. This week we’ve had an additional focus on Somatics and it’s been fascinating to learn about bodywork and how it connects to movement and the mind. Even in this photo...slow movements listening to how my body wants to move versus creating a shape that I’m supposed to be. I’m embracing this mantra for the week...Where the Mind Goes...Your Energy Flows! See you next week
I love feeling
So insignificant
With eyes wide
Over the ancient ridge-line
So small
Under the great expanse
of the night sky
So fleeting
With bare feet on land
From the beginning of time
Awestruck and humbled
To be apart of something
So vast and incomprehensible
Knowing
I may never touch the bottom
Of this timeless mystery ✨
~
Pouring forth from overwhelm, @organicallywealthy and I could not be more humbled by the response to our September retreat. Spots have already been secured and sealed! If you are hearing the call, follow the echo now
This video may be the most vulnerable thing I’ve ever shared...
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is me, in my body, experiencing myself wholly and completely.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It’s been a long journey to get here, to a place where I actually enjoy being with myself, in myself..
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Fully sensing and feeling myself.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
10 years ago I had no idea moments like this were possible— moments of pure joy and pleasure at being in a human body.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Moments where my body would tell me how she wants to move and how she wants to be touched and I would want nothing more than to listen and appease her.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’d been conditioned to believe that my body was dirty, broken, too much and at the same time not enough...
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I unconsciously believed that if I actually **felt** myself and expressed that sensuality, I would be labeled a slut, an attention seeker, a girl who needs other’s validation.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’ve made videos like this before.. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Only to delete them immediately and silently continue the narrative that it’s only acceptable to feel, sense, and express myself behind closed doors.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m complete with that narrative.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m done hiding what I know to be true:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The female body is the birth place of all creation.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The female body is a sacred space, a space where we find the roots of the Self and the untapped potential for our fullest expression.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Movement, breath, sound, and touch are the four pillars of somatic initiation, of mind-body-spirit integration, where the soul finds its way into the body.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
After millennia of feminine oppression, we are at a precipice.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We are at the edge of evolution where all women have an important choice to make:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You have the choice to continue the current collective narrative or take a stand and be a voice, an embodiment of humanity’s evolution.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We are creating a new paradigm where the body is not just respected, but revered as an essential aspect of the Divine, a sacred vessel that houses the Light.

@theyogaphysicist and I were talking the other night about wrist problems in yoga .
.
Wrist problems are shoulder problems which are often rib problems. The arm connects to the ribs from pecs, lats, subscapularis. The scapula connects to ribs and spine with serratus and rhomboids .
.
These myo-fascial tracks must be well balanced for optimum integration. You need to try and spread the load evenly between these lines of force transmission .
.
Here are some samples of somatic movements to help connect the wrist to ribs. Sometimes I think about how moving my arm like this effects the ribs. Then I also play with the ribs being the driver and how the wrist can follow .
.
This work is also extremely helpful for those of us who work with bent elbows a lot .
.
Want change in how you move and feel? Then book a session or show up to class the studio! .

Before coming here I hadn’t realised that I was “homesick” from my own home: my body. I was feeling that my body was a little bit floaty and uprooted. There was a disconnection with it and since being here I feel like I’m not only “clicked” into my body, but I understand its rhythm and natural movement on a whole other level. I have a new understanding of mind body soul connection and it feels really nice to finally feel a strong connection to my own body again. To feel more rooted. To feel stronger. To understand its subtleties.
Our teacher training has introduced us to body somatics, functional range conditioning and active stretching and movement. We’ve been incorporating all of these practices in our yoga classes and I feel a huge difference not just in my body but in my mind too. I hadn’t realised how disconnected I felt until I felt connected again. I believe a lot of this disconnection has to do with the emphasis on passive stretching and the hyperflexibility in certain joints. When joints move around more than they should, it can possibly make one feel more discombobulated and disconnected from one’s mind and soul. By incorporating movement that is not only more fluid but active and moves in a none linear way, I actually feel more at home in my body than ever before. I actually see a difference in my mind and my thinking patterns. Movement is medicine and our bodies are meant to move in all the different ways.
Dear Anxious or Depressed or Manic or Obsessive-Compulsive or Heartbroken or Enraged or Marginalized or Sad or Abused or Exhausted or Bullied or Traumatized or Frightened One: please remember that this phase shall too pass - I AM HERE TO VALIDATE YOUR FEELINGS.
YOU ARE MORE THAN THIS MOMENT.
I SEE & HONOR YOU.

Regular cat/cow where we arch & round our entire spine as one unit is a movement taught in almost every yoga class everywhere. And it’s an excellent movement - it mobilizes & warms up the spine, turns on our connection to our core, etc
. . .
But it can be helpful to also find a more fine-tuned connection to our spine, where we learn how to control smaller segments separately from one another.
. . .
That’s why I like this idea of a brand new way of practicing cat/cow! I know that isolating lumbar & thoracic spine movement from each other isn’t new , but I like the idea of integrating them into a cat/cow flow like this, where we practice one and then the other back-and-forth repeatedly.
. . .
This fine-tuned control of the spine can be tricky to find, though. If you haven’t worked on this before, you might find that if you try to move only your lumbar spine by itself, your thoracic spine will just be all too eager to jump in help, and it will arch & round right along with your lumbar spine. (Putting us right back where we started with regular old cat/cow heh heh.)
. . .
And the same goes for trying to isolate thoracic spine movement by itself - the lumbar spine often wants to move too because we’re just not familiar with the fine-tuned control necessary to truly isolate these parts from one another.
. . .
If this is the case for you, first of all know that just the *attempt* to isolate these spinal halves can be helpful. So no worries if it doesn’t happen right away!
. . .
But second of all, there are many ways to regress this movement and help teach isolated spinal movement in a more accessible way. Like using yoga props for feedback on which part of your spine is moving, or putting your body in positions that limit movement in one area of the spine to help encourage movement somewhere else.
. . .
I don’t have the space to cover all of that in this little post, but I do teach some of these things in my online class library!
. . .
In the meantime, have fun with this different take on cat/cow if you give it a try!
