Are you in need of emotional first aid? ‍⚕️⛑ ▫️ When you cut your finger while chopping vegetables, do you continue to bleed on the cutting board? Of course not! You run your finger under cold water and then apply a bandaid. ▫️ Why don't we treat our mental health with the same care? After all, emotional injuries can be just as painful as physical injuries. And if we don't address our emotional wounds, they can fester and compound. When we're struggling, the treatment is emotional first aid. ▫️ What does emotional first aid look like? It focuses on paying attention to your mental health and observing how you tend to deal with stressful, difficult, or emotionally painful situations. Notice whether your go-to response is effective at helping you heal. If it's not, try various techniques until you identify what works for you. Here are some ideas: ▫️ Talk with someone you trust who is also a good listener (such as a therapist or friend). ▫️ Exercise, even for just 5 minutes. For example, walk around the neighborhood or do some slow stretching. ▫️ Soothe yourself with a hot bath, snuggling under a soft blanket, or drinking a hot beverage. ▫️ Do something kind for someone else, even if it's as simple as holding open a door or picking up something they dropped. ▫️ Write down your thoughts in a journal or on scraps of paper that you throw away or burn (in a safe, controlled environment). ▫️ Listen to soothing music or YouTube videos such as nature soundscapes, guided meditations, or ASMR videos. ▫️ Do something creative such as writing, drawing, painting, knitting, scrapbooking. ▫️ Call a "warm line." This is a peer support help line for people struggling with mental health concerns but who are not necessarily in crisis. Calls are answered by specially-trained volunteers who have lived experience with mental health challenges and can provide emotional support, comfort, and information. ▫️ When you experience an emotional wound, treat yourself gently and with compassion. As Brene Brown also says: "What we don't need in the midst of struggle is shame for being human." ▫️

Tension is a result of life trying to tell us that we are out of sync with ourselves and with the present. ⠀⠀ That stress goes away when we ask ourselves, “What effort am I exerting at the moment?”, and are able to cease that effort entirely. ⠀⠀ This creates the pull between the present moment and our imagined future. It causes the tension we feel in our body and mind. ⠀⠀ When there is no effort to reach out, we are as we are, in the present moment free of any pressure or tension. ⠀⠀ A stress free mind is a clear mind. And a clear mind is good at solving problems. . . . . #stillness #mindfulnessquotes #centred #peacefulmind #zenbuddhism #innerguidance #wisdomquotes #innertruth #highvibesonly #innerwisdom #selfaware #successhabits #stressreduction #stressrelief #peacefulmindpeacefullife

Knowing when to stop is honestly not something I am personally very good at, I am still learning that it’s important to listen to my body and know my own limits. Feeling stressed or allowing yourself to get over stressed, should not be a daily norm and whether you realise it or not could also be causing other problems for both your physical and mental health. Last week I reached a point where I had to stop, I had to put my wellbeing first; after battling through headaches and an ear infection at the beginning of the week, by Thursday I was exhausted and felt like I was coming undone. I made the mistake for not listening to my body, of not slowing down and not allowing myself to rest and recover. . For #stressawarenessmonth this April I am going to be making more of a conscious effort to listen to my body and respond to what it needs. Sometimes that will be going to bed very early, sometimes that will be visiting a doctor to get checked out and sometimes that will be KNOWING I NEED TO STOP. . #morningmotivation #stressawareness #stress #stressedout #stressfree #stressmanagement #stressreduction #knowwhentostop #rest #letyourselfrest #listentoyourbody #listentoyourneeds #loveyourbody #learntostop #health #wellbeing #mentalhealth #laurajaneillustrations #hellohappee

We can always try again tomorrow. With a bit of rest, it will likely work out better. Most of our stress occurs because we don’t take care of our minds and bodies. We’re constantly on the move, pushing through exhaustion and discomfort, telling ourselves “I’ll rest once I finish this.” But, inevitably, something else is added to our to-do lists. There will always be something else, folks. If we don’t learn to prioritize rest, burnout will quickly become illness. And for folks with mental illness and chronic illness, high stress levels exacerbate these conditions. Will it matter if you’ve crossed an item off your to-do list if you’re doing it from your sick bed? April is #stressawarenessmonth so I’ll be posting encouragement and suggestions for stress management. I’ll also be sharing advice for college students since April is when the spring semester wraps up before final exams in May (in the United States, at least). I hope you’ll share your own experiences and advice! Biophilic Nature of Fractals . A study on the effect of visual fractals on human observers, has shown that fractals with a fractal scale D between the ranges of 1.3 - 1.5 are the most asethically pleasing to the human observer. These mid range fractals are easier for the human visual system to process, the system of retinal scanning in humans also appears to be a fractal process itself. They have also been shown to significantly reduce stress levels producing a calming effect in observers. So why do humans react to fractal imagery in that way? Many researchers believe the answer may be because many of the bodies systems are also fractal structures, eg the branching in the nervous has a fractal form. The architecture of the human body consists of many of these fractal structures and for this reason human have an affinity towards them. Is the human body a fractal of the universe itself?
