عبدالرحمن قاسملو در دوران کودکی
عبدالرحمن قاسملو در شب یلدای‌سال 1309 خورشیدی، مصادف با 22 دسامبر 1930در یك خانوادهی زمیندار ثروتمند و در یکی از روستاهای تابعه‌‌ی ارومیه چشم به‌جهان گشود.
تحصیلات ابتدایی و متوسطه را در ارومیه و سپس در تهران به‌پایان رسانید. هنوز نوجوانی‌بیش نبود كه‌با مسایل سیاسی آ‌شنایی پیدا كرد و افكار آ‌زادیخواهانه در ذهنش جای‌گرفت.
وی‌در این باره‌در كتاب "چهل سال مبارزه‌در راه‌آ‌زادی" و در صفحات 62 ـ 61 پس از بحث درباره‌ی سفر 30 تن از مالكین و رؤسای عشایر كُرد به"باكو" بنا به‌دعوت دولت شوروی‌چنین می‌نویسد:
"اگرچه من در آ‌ن زمان یازده ساله بودم، لیكن مانند بسیاری از كودكان آ‌ن دوره سیاست توجه مرا به خود جلب كرده بود. پدرم یكی از اعضای آ‌ن هیأت بود. به یاد دارم موقعی كه از سفر باكو برگشت، چند عدل قند و یك تفنگ ته‌پُر شكاری خوب همراه آ‌ورده بود. چنین می‌نمود كه شوروی‌ها قند و تفنگ و وسایل دیگر را به‌عنوان هدیه به‌همه‌ی اعضای هیأت داده بودند. به‌ویژه قند خیلی با ارزش بود. چون آ‌ن زمان در ایران كمیاب و گران بود. این كار به‌نظر من بسیار عجیب می‌نمود. زیرا در خانوادهی ما برادران و عموزاده‌هایم كه از من بزرگتر بودند، از این سخن به‌میان می‌آ‌وردند كه‌پدرم همراه چند نفر دیگر به باكو رفته‌اند تا حقوق و آ‌زادی كُردها را طلب نمایند. به‌همین علت رُک و صریح از پدرم پرسیدم: پس حقوق كُردها چه شد؟" #pdki_peshmarga
