From Dovima to Lauren Hutton, The Beetles to Anjelica Houston, and all his iconic works for Harpers and Vogue, his images were glamorous, fun, and full of energy. p r a d a S S 9 8 Minimillism was at its height and the future was dawning..... Cue Miuccia and her sleek, sports infused collection, saturated with new hi tech fabrics, it was revolutionary and inspirational! Cropped pants were a big message as was the “Boob Tube” in muted colours of wheat and sand, yet it was her tie died like prints that were the biggest winners, in coats, skirts and dresses! Her Menswear collection for the season as equally inspirational and influential, it would be here the sports influence was strongest. Anoraks with loose fitting pants and Velcro fastened shirting and shoes, futuristic and directional. The campaign stared Amber ( her third consecutive for the Milanese house ) shot by Glen Luchford, set against a eerily stark background, it creates a sense of the past and future colliding and not knowing what the outcome will be ( ironic as Y2K was looming and the feeling of not knowing what will happen was a mood felt worldwide, one the Glen managed to capture in this campaign ). m r t a l l e y Finally got around to watching “The Gospel according to Andre”, what a film! Ive loved Andre for years through my devotion to Vogue, and would read his “Life with Andre” religiously ever month! His depiction, passion and descriptive words were always exciting and really made fashion that much more exciting. He is beyond an idol for me, and our lives draw so many parallels. Both having grew up in small towns, both of colour, obsessed with fashion and beauty and using Vogue as escapism. More importantly, however, was our undying love and admiration for our grandmothers! One of the biggest, and most influential figures in fashion, Andre has had an immense impact within the industry, one that I’m not even sure if he is fully aware of. So if you haven’t seen it yet, I definitely recommend watching “The Gospel according to Andre”.
