What a pretty runner I am

But being pretty is not what running is about! For me its about gritting your teeth and chasing those goals hard. And after a good race at last night's RR10 cross country and a fairly decent 8 miles tonight I feel like I'm starting to make progress! This 10k PB might not be lost yet!

It's been a case of squeezing the runs in this week and my legs are now in pieces but the miles are in the bag and I'm super excited to swap my running shoes for my dancing shoes as I head up north tomorrow to celebrate the wedding of one of my besties @lynseyv_93 . Bridesmaid ready

2 days until @ridelondon and Recovery has been the aim this week. You wait all year for epic bike related events in London and two come back to back when we saw the dates of @thelondontri and @ridelondon I knew it was going to be a challenge. It’s no secret I love to run but it’s only in the last year I’ve really embraced ultras. I remember my first ultra and was so nervous but the thrill of completing it made me feel like a superhero.

Something that is obvious there is still a huge imbalance in the number of men compared to ladies in the longer events, something @strollingsoph recently mentioned too. We need more women to try as we a definitely more than capable.

It seems something is holding us women back. This was apparent with some of the comments/messages on my last adventure. It seems there are many of you out there who love to do the E51 but are not sure they could manage it, worried about cut-off times and terrain.

Cut-offs may be scary but don’t let them put you off. A friend of mine recently ran the E51. She knew she was going to struggle to make the time but she wanted the challenge. Unfortunately she missed one of the time limits in the first half, but wanted to go on, which she did unofficially (and could do as the course is permanently marked). Although unable to benefit from all the aid stations she actually managed to finish ahead of others and within the overall course time limit. The worst that could have happened was that she got half way and had to be pulled off the course and shown how to get back to the finish. The best thing was she wasnt afraid to enter and she manage to get a medal in the end. What a woman!

Some races have very tight cut-offs others may be more flexible so it’s always worth asking the organiser beforehand. LDWA events are designed for walkers so that may be an option for you to try first.

My biggest fear however was getting lost in training runs. I don’t know my left from my right and I can barely read a map. Best thing for me was discovering how to program a route using @strava and the loading it into my @garminuk. It opened up a whole new world for me, I can explore further afield and get the miles in without feeling I’m repeating the same old routes. Don’t worry if your watch can’t do that just use Strava on your phone.

The mid run find some shade and a take a selfie pitstop . This was obviously an essential part of this evening's run, along with telling everyone how warm it was!!

I got my sensible hat on and switched this week's runs around meaning that tonight could be an easy 3 miles, saving the scheduled speed session for tomorrow morning when it's hopefully a bit cooler! Watch this space on that one

Those that wait all day watching the rain trying to think of reasons why it's ok to not go out running tonight

I have to admit that my head was not in this at all when I walked in the door after work! But the weather god's were kind and my legs woke up at around half way, the quick pitstop at the co-op for a packet of squashies may have also helped!!
.
And I managed 8 quite enjoyable miles with @aliceliveing in my ears (the Give Me Strength podcast is brilliant by the way) without getting too soggy! That's a Tuesday win if you ask me ☔♀️

Now I'm not going to pretend that Yoga is the top of my priority list because that would be an absolute lie!
.
In fact it's pretty near the bottom of this list. It's something that I know I should do, but out of all of the aspects of living a runners life it's the thing I hate the most! I like the tough sessions where you work up such a sweat that you can't stop it running into your eyes . And I like feeling like I have pushed my body to the limit. Yoga does NOT do that for me!
.
But it's a practice that I know keeps me relatively injury free and massively aids my recovery. (By the way this is totally my opinion. I know so many people that love and swear by yoga which is really the only reason I keep going back for more!!)
.
So tonight I persevered! I have been struggling over the last week with a fair few niggles so forcing myself to get some yoga in was the only way tonight! In the end I managed a 30 min runners yoga video by @adrienelouise in the front room before heading up for a nice warm bath to really get the recovery going/reward myself for sticking with it!

Does anyone else share this weird relationship with yoga? Please tell me I'm not alone (I have tried to love it I promise!)
