DAY 26 - Rest Day
Mug Run last night was just what I needed - happy vibes and smiley faces and no looking at my watch. I have a 10k race on Sunday and just in case I haven’t said I SUPER SUCK at 10k, my head lets me down every time and I am just awful. So today is all about a day trip with my family and all the rest so that this weekend I can try and achieve my one goal - this is not remotely time or PB related, it’s simply to not hate running a 10k helpfully it’s by the seaside @barry_island_ #runtheisland with some of my favourites so this will hopefully help too oh, and ice cream. All the ice cream now I’m off out for a day of fun
It’s no secret I love to run but it’s only in the last year I’ve really embraced ultras. I remember my first ultra and was so nervous but the thrill of completing it made me feel like a superhero.
.
Something that is obvious there is still a huge imbalance in the number of men compared to ladies in the longer events, something @strollingsoph recently mentioned too. We need more women to try as we a definitely more than capable.
.
It seems something is holding us women back. This was apparent with some of the comments/messages on my last adventure. It seems there are many of you out there who love to do the E51 but are not sure they could manage it, worried about cut-off times and terrain.
.
Cut-offs may be scary but don’t let them put you off. A friend of mine recently ran the E51. She knew she was going to struggle to make the time but she wanted the challenge. Unfortunately she missed one of the time limits in the first half, but wanted to go on, which she did unofficially (and could do as the course is permanently marked). Although unable to benefit from all the aid stations she actually managed to finish ahead of others and within the overall course time limit. The worst that could have happened was that she got half way and had to be pulled off the course and shown how to get back to the finish. The best thing was she wasnt afraid to enter and she manage to get a medal in the end. What a woman!
.
Some races have very tight cut-offs others may be more flexible so it’s always worth asking the organiser beforehand. LDWA events are designed for walkers so that may be an option for you to try first.
.
My biggest fear however was getting lost in training runs. I don’t know my left from my right and I can barely read a map. Best thing for me was discovering how to program a route using @strava and the loading it into my @garminuk. It opened up a whole new world for me, I can explore further afield and get the miles in without feeling I’m repeating the same old routes. Don’t worry if your watch can’t do that just use Strava on your phone.
.
What do you think is stopping us women from entering the longer event? I’d be interested to hear.

This morning I ran for twenty minutes straight and I almost cried. I would never have believed a couple of months ago I could be at this point .
I didn't look like this but I wouldn't want to subject you to the reality which is more like a sweaty beetroot .
Each time I tie up my laces and get ready to leave the house for a run I have to mentally force myself out the door and shut out the many excuses I can come up with to NOT run but when actually doing it (or finishing) the buzz is so worth it (the kids call it the en-dolphins) .
I'm probably never going to be running marathons but I'm just proud to get to this point, I'm noticing that I can run around with the kids more and that I have more energy generally. .
So many of you have been messaging me to say you're taken up #couchto5k or have done it before and it's so nice to have that encouragment!
.
Anyone who's finished it what did you do afterwards?

In 2016 I created this account to document THIS Very moment. The moment I went from non runner to someone who ran an ultra.
.
.
Race to the stones will always be more than a race to me and watching all of my friends do it this year made me think that next year I would love to go back...
.
.
If you put the training in you can do anything! .

Bushy Parkrun in 21.44 with the buggy today, a new double buggy PB. Previous one was from from two years ago so the load was considerably lighter then. The start today was crazy busy so first km was completely focused on not taking other runners ankles out. Topped it up with a backwards loop to the playground and now have two very happy girls just hanging out in the sandpit. Perfect start to a sunny Saturday.
I always love a trip to @csparkrun especially when there are lots of friendly faces around. It was made even better this morning when I crossed the line to the news that @jackledbury had a new PB
.
.
There were times on the run where it felt like a real struggle, but given how tired I felt after our meh drive back from London yesterday it was nice to be out in some fresh air!
.
.
I’ve not done any speed work for the last couple of months, but I know what needs to be done if I want to get back to the times that I was hitting earlier in the year. Bring on the hard work
