New moon, who dis? I haven’t posted much about beauty stuff yet cause this account is mostly about inner beauty stuff, you know? But being the consumer advocate and Cha Cha that I am, I would like to introduce you to a wonderful asset, @environmentalworkinggroup, they also go by EWG. You can look up many personal care products like makeup, perfume, baby stuff, deodorants and foods to see how toxic they are or aren’t. This is important as some of us femmes wear up to 200 different #toxicchemicals on a daily basis. This doesn’t even include our sometimes toxic Home environments (think air fresheners, pesticides, carpet glue and off gassing paint) Workplace (automotive industry, beauty shops, an old building with peeling lead paint) or the regular old pollution outside where we live. We’re near 5 freeways that intersect and it’s the main culprit for asthma and allergies that my children and the children of #eastLA endure. Some beauty products intended for WOC are leave-in products that are absorbed through the skin (thus your bloodstream) and can contribute to chronic health issues like thyroid disease or even cancer. This goes for lotions too. All this fuss so companies can make a profit using cheap ingredients. It’s funny how #crueltyfree doesn’t apply to usI don’t make my own beauty products and I definitely don’t say no to make up gifts, but someone had to tell you this. Wth is in that thing you ask? Dry shampoo, duh! . . Let me begin by saying I used to drown my hair in Dove dry shampoo until I started changing my products to more natural toxic free ones. Turns out the Dove dry shampoo has carcinogenic ingredients. No thanks, I'll pass. . . Then I moved on to an all natural dry shampoo I'd get at Wholefoods. But holy shit did it add up! It was like $7 a bottle. So I decided to take the matters into my own hands. . . Say hello to this DIY dry shampoo! So so simple and inexpensive! I purchased a package of arrowroot powder & some cacao powder, mix them together and wallah! Arrowroot is what soaks up the oils in your hair and I added some cacao to make it blend in with my hair color a bit more. . . This is what I mean folks - if you wouldn't eat it, don't put it on your body! . . The best part? When it's time to wash my hair and I put hot water on it, the entire shower smells like hot chocolate. Freaking divine. That's a win win in my book. . . Do you make any of your own beauty products?
