To everyone else, happy throwback Thursday! - I realize many are down on the US these days, but I just want to reflect on the magnificence of the Declaration of Independence. I’m still in awe of the eloquence of Thomas Jefferson. As you read it you can almost feel the pain he felt. I get the sense that he, and his fellow patriots, didn’t want to leave, but felt it was necessary. The King had just gone too far. It was with this context that they would set up a system of government unlike the world had ever seen and would be repeatedly copied around the globe for the next 200+ years. - As for me, I love the flexibility of our system that compensated for the flaws in humankind. We have checks and balances that protect us from tyrannical ego driven leaders and also from mob rule that would overwhelm the numerous minorities. Though discriminatory in its initial implementation, our flexible system later allowed blacks, women and others to participate more fully in the promise of America as written in the Declaration. We still must fight, though, as the LGBT community has come under attack. Happy #transformationtuesday ! Just a year over year comparison here. These always help me feel better about my progress. It was right about this time a year ago I started taking active steps towards transitioning. In the pic on the left I had just gotten my ears pierced. It was so empowering! Then, a few days after the pic was taken I went for my first electrolysis session to rid myself of my beard. Also, by this point I had set up an appointment for the following month to start hormones. So, basically, this time last year I started to fast track the process. I remember being scared, excited, happy and anxious ... but it was all good!!! I felt kinda badass, like some warrior princess... taking control of my destiny. - I’ve learned a lot about myself through this. I feel like not only have I found peace and healing, I’ve become a more compassionate and empathetic person. Though I run into the occasional bigot, I’ve experienced love on a level I never knew existed before. These people stayed with their leader for 14 years until Lord Rama could return to his kingdom. This gave the hijras a special place in #Hindu #mythology.⁣ ⁣ Many Indians believe that hijras have the power to #bless or #curse and so they are often seen to distribute their #blessings especially in trains and road junction. ⁣ Not all men are more pleased, admittedly, and some are shy or dismissive. ⁣ ⁣ Therefore it should be added that the hijras in Indian society do not have an easy life despite all #tolerance and #acceptance. ⁣
