I don’t know about anyone else but it’s physically and mentally exhausting chasing these fish. Constantly going up and down the rivers, climbing over sketchy log jams in hopes of finding a nice pool, maybe getting bit and hopefully landing the fish ‍♀️ There is something about the challenge that got me hooked! The views are beautiful and the sounds are so therapeutic. We went down with a tackle box full of gear and left with not even a quarter of what we had so it’s safe to say we had a wonderful time and learned lots (lost a float or two or 20) Couldn’t have done it without you @nikbirmingham❤️ #catchandrelease #blindbuck

. FELT VS. RUBBER SOLES . . Buying new waders and wading boots is often a substantial investment, and you’ll want your purchase to last for multiple seasons. One of the choices you’ll undoubtedly encounter as you shop is whether to buy felt or rubber-soled waders. Some of you may already know where I’m going with this, but for those of you who don’t, allow me to establish some context. . . Felt soles provide exceptional traction on slick rocks that are common in many wading situations, giving you added stability and improved safety while wading. Rubber, on the other hand, has less grip, and requires you to move with more caution while navigating the rocky freestone streams that so many of us fish. Felt’s advantages beg the question, why would anyone buy rubber? . . Well, there are a couple of reasons, the first being the law. In some states and jurisdictions, felt-soled boots are outright banned, due to their susceptibility to spreading aquatic hitchhikers and diseases. Before you make your purchase, make sure you check the up-to-date regulations of your state and the areas you fish (Yellowstone National Park, for example, has its own ban). . . The texture and traction that is so good on rocks also turns out to be good on species like New Zealand Mudsnails, didymo, and others. Add to that the challenge of cleaning them, and you have a recipe for major cross-contamination between rivers. . . If you live in a state where felt soles are legal, it’s up to you to be responsible with your cleaning habits. One way to ensure that your gear is clean is to simply let it dry for over 48 hours. If you are bouncing from one body of water to another, soaking your gear in a solution of detergent for at least an hour is another way to be confident that you’ve done your part. . . At the end of the day, we are lstewards of the bodies of water we fish. Felt soles are great for those who fish the same body of water over and over, or for those who take the necessary precautions to clean their gear. But the danger of spreading invaders is real, and if you’re worried about the frequency with which you switch rivers, rubber may be a more responsible choice. . . @beadheadednympher
