It’s finished guys! I am in love. I stained the bare clay with a new red iron oxide and it went on so evenly! I’m still getting the hang of this glaze. Feel like I did well keeping it from dripping over the mountains, but overdid the lake and it spilled over the bottom! Also it reduced during the firing and has flashes of plum all over it! So unique. Have a wonderful weekend! It’s a long weekend here so I’m going camping out west with some friends. A flash of colour on a mug. My newish fully programmable kiln has broken down this week, so I’m back to using my ancient but trusty manual kiln. I had forgotten how much work is involved in running downstairs every hour to check / adjust the power level and keep on schedule. It’s hard work. A big shout out to all you potters out there firing like this on the regular.

Variation. These pieces are made from the same clay, with the same glaze, and were fired in different parts of the kiln during the same firing. The larger of my two kilns fires pretty unevenly, and although I’m usually pretty good at strategic placement sometimes it’s easy to slack off a bit and get complacent...and then this. Which is ok if variation is what you want, but annoying if it’s not. Any suggestions for how to even out the temperature during the last stages of a stoneware firing gratefully accepted ❤️
