I wrote this for my little Wildflower and for all the little dreamers out there. May they have the time, space and opportunity to enter into that timeless flow where all the magic happens & may they one day be inspired to share that light with the world ✨#wildschooling #wilderchild #givethemtime #playmatters

Yesterday morning Micah ran to me with the biggest smile on his face saying “It didn’t hurt or tickle”. In his hands he held a tiny tooth, that had fallen out from the bottom on his mouth. A mixture of excitement, happiness and a hint of sadness brewed inside me as he handed me the tooth that I swear I watched grow only yesterday. When Micah was only a few months old my husband and I would talk about what the tooth fairy would bring. We decided they would bring a Crystal for each tooth to bring a hint of magic to the occasion ✨

Follow and tag @woodnutty and @the.rhythm.of.play for a chance to be featured ❤️ . . Great idea for #plasticfreejuly2019crafts from @adelines_hearts_and_crafts . . I was inspired to make these colour hunt cards after seeing a book like this on my friend @adventureninjafamily stories last night. As miss 2 has been enjoying outdoor play recently, I thought we could use these to get some more vocab practice and colour recognition. This morning she took to them right away and walked around the garden looking through the cutouts. She didn't really stick to matching the colours but we had good chats about what she saw. I was carrying bub in one arm so it wasn't something I was able to capture in my stories. Mr 8 also loved having a go, and spent time outside after school finding the colour matches. These took me a solid half an hour to draw and stencil cut last night, but I can see these cards being used regularly- either outside or indoors!

Today we spent a glorious few hours in the bush cooking over the fire, exploring and crafting. My fourth grader has just started her Norse Mythology main lesson block and it has inspired an interest in all things Viking, so today I planned our adventure day activities accordingly! Each of the girls made their own Lucet fork, similar to what may have been used by the Vikings to make braided cord. I thought I'd share how we made them with you all, it's a great first whittling project and Lucet braiding is a wonderful handwork activity for children who aren't quite ready for knitting. First you need to find a forked branch and cut it to size, you want the prongs of the fork to be a similar width and length and thick enough that they won't snap easily. We used branches of hawthorn, willow and apricot trees from our garden, but pretty much any wood will do! Once you've cut your branch to size use a pocket knife to remove the bark (photos 2&3), my eldest two girls chose to leave the bark on the handle for a decorative effect. Make sure the prongs of the fork are smooth and slightly tapered towards the ends. Once your fork is ready you can choose your yarn and begin making your cord. We used two and three strands of yarn to make our cords but if your child is younger it might be better to start with just one strand of chunkier yarn until they've got the hang of it. Make a slip knot in the yarn and place it loosely over one prong of your Lucet fork, then wrap the yarn around the other prong in a figure of eight (photo 4). You can also do this without the slip knot simply by securing the tail of your yarn under your thumb as you wrap- both ways work fine! Now make a second figure of eight so that each prong has two loops of yarn (photo 5). Next gently ease the bottom loops over the top loops and off the end of the each prong. You should now have one loop on each prong. Pull the tail of the yarn gently and repeat, you will soon see your cord beginning to take shape (photo 6). When you have finished your cord cut the yarn and carefully remove the loops from the fork, thread the yarn through the loops and knot to secure. (Cont. in comments)
