*Eight Winters* . Each winter of tending the willows is a new chapter, a new journey. A place I return to in the darkness of each year like a homecoming. Some years I wade dark waters of deep & quiet reflection, some years bursts of delicate creative thunder keep me up at night, and some years the relentless pounding wind and rain breaks me to make room for the new. . . Willow is of the waters, of our Moon, spirit-weaver of Fertility and Intuition—fierce and graceful as a lion. Reflecting to those close to her where the river is blocked, sometimes softly and other times like a springy slap. This winter i received a good ol’ slap— as I was getting so caught up in harvest, tending and making that i was neglecting my own alignment. Years of rigidity in my shoulders has finally come to a head and has encouraged (forced) me to change how I create, tend, make. I am in the darkness and re-birthing my relationship to everything I do. All of us craftspeople ask a lot of our bodies, tis so important to use our vessels mindfully. . . This is a first-year patch of willow, the first harvest is always a bit branchy and the spacing is twice as wide as usual due to not enough cuttings last year...! Properly planted now . This basket is just over 3' wide! This one was a commission, thank you @livingtruenature for your trust and support with this one ♡ this was a first for me, making such a large flat shallow basket. If you've woven something like this then you know what I mean when I say DAMN. that's some work! I've had the opportunity to do a few commissions lately and it's wayyy more fun than I thought. I have never focused much on fully visioning a basket before weaving, I'm way more inclined to figure it out while I'm in the process.. but the structure is nice to sit with, and leaves opportunity for designs to be more thought out ahead of time like the orange spirals in this one.
