I have always been such a big fan of Phélan Ségur since we had the great LBBC lunch in 2013 with Véronique Dausse. No notes taken for the few bottles of 2006 we had during Christmas dinner, but once again, it is just great to see that 2006 is nicely coming around. Good density, concentration, aromas of earth and ripe black fruits, meat juice and blue flowers. The grain is nice, tannins are quite smooth and the wine stays fresh and lively. I keep some good memories of this magnum of Savigny-lès-Beaune 2002. I didn’t know the domain prior to this tasting. This was all blind tasting. I didn’t take any notes for this one, the pace was too high during that night... but I remember a compact Pinot Noir, well structured and mature, with a slight “natural” tendency. Quite gamy and barn yarn character. This is certainly on point and ready to drink today. Anyone has some experience with this domain? Cheers guys, the weekend is here!

That’s what we may call an unlucky duo. I basically never had any problem with Comtes Lafon in the past. I really love their wines. But this duo was just disappointing. The Perrières was totally premox with very bad color (not shown on the picture). The Goutte-d’Or was certainly in better shape, but not at the level of Comtes Lafon. The nose showed some shy notes of butter, salinity, white flowers, some truffles. The palate was fresh with good tension, with decent body and good fat. However, the wine was pretty silent and not singing at all. Maybe the timing isn’t right, as the bottle didn’t seem to suffer from any problem. We had very high expectations and this ended being the most disappointing flight of our NYE dinner. This happens! Cheers guys!

A very nice Pomerol with good price, this is just so enjoyable! I think that bottle is under $50, which makes it very good value for money. The glass wasn’t very suited, but I can’t always have my Zaltos with me. Pomerol is much more accessible in its youth than other Bordeaux, especially from Left Bank. Also, the bottles are stored on a boat, which makes them age probably faster. This one displayed beautiful aromas of black fruits and black berries. Some blue flowers too. The palate was rich, but very elegant, with quite smooth tannins. Rather cold and quite strict but it remains generous and enjoyable. We also tasted 2015 the same day which was more explosive and had much brighter fruit (more towards red berries): the difference between 2 vintages is striking! Cheers my friends, have a good week!

Santa Barbara Vine Status! A closeup look at a grapevine flowering. These delicate flowers blossom on the vines and self-pollinate to develop into berries. All wineries with current blooming vines are keeping their fingers crossed for good upcoming weather. Excess, rain, fog, wind or temperature could damage the flower and affect the final wine product.

How lucky to come across such a wine list again, which includes some very decent vintages of @luchets007 ! We opted for the Bouchères 2005, and simply had a blast! Superb shiny yellow robe, showing a little bit of age. The nose was open and generous with a lot of ripe yellow fruits like peaches, complement with some herbal scents, like dried hay. A lot of pastry and some butter too, very yummy. The palate shows superb concentration, with a slight hint of sweetness that made it funny. Medium acidity and freshness, intense and fat. Butter and brioche again, with some more delicate touches of white flowers. With more air, it gets a bit more caramelized, getting close to the style of old Krug GC that I love. Simply awesome, and the food there also blew my mind. I hope you guys have a nice Sunday!

Exploring some more wines from Courbis. A delicious 2017 Saint Joseph we had for lunch. Mostly Marsanne grape, and a little bit of Roussane. Approx. 10 000 bottles per year. About 20€ a bottle, that’s a great pick! 30% vinified in new oak. Bottled after 10 to 12 months. I didn’t write down any notes but this was a fresh wine, with a lot of yellow fruits (peach) and citrus fruits, with some honey and tea leaves. The palate is quite wide, demonstrative with good thickness and concentration. Medium acidity, no so complex for know but very enjoyable. Will certainly get more focused with time, it is still a bit young and not enough bottle time for now. But definitely a right pick for a casual family lunch. Cheers to the weekend guys!
