Took about 45 mins to fill two bags of trash on my morning walk (I do wear gloves when I’m picking up this much trash, cause you know...people are nasty) ♻️ I was able to recycle some items, but mostly it’s just packaging from fast food, straws and a few cigarette related items With the cooler weather I haven’t really gone on my trashy walks. I’m a major baby when it comes to the cold! But it’s something I’m trying to get back into. I think if you’re able and have the time, occasionally picking up trash will make you the most popular kid in school. Or if you’re not in school then, it’ll just make you a really popular human, even more so than the Kardashians. It’s been scientifically proved (trust me I’m a random on the internet!) and you won’t need to promote flat tummy tea!! Does this make me popular? *Did I do a flat lay of trash? You bet ya I did! Actually, I mostly separated the trash to separate recyclables from the trash. And while I was there I thought, oh let’s do a flat lay!!!* #kidstoday #fomo

Like I was saying yesterday, living low waste will look different to everyone. Here a few of my favorite weekly low waste vegan swaps. Not all, but some. And hopefully they inspire you to pick up your veg without a plastic bag next time, or to swap in a few local seasonal whole plant foods instead of imported animal products. Or perhaps think about supporting fair trade items for your chocolate or coffee choices. Of course it depends on what you have available to you, but it’s also nice to think outside the box from our regular routine and see if there are any places where we can make some room for change. But that being said, don’t be fooled, at least a couple times a week, I treat myself to some fancy vegan food that comes in plastic. Either in store or at my fave restaurants. Why? Because balance is important too. And if having some vegan cheese, vegan ice cream, or a pre-made tempeh burrito are what keep me living the rest of my lifestyle low-ish waste, then I’m here for it! My philosophy is that if I’m choosing something that’s more wasteful, I want to support the right kind of businesses with my dollar. The ones who are paving the way to greener options, and continually improving their own waste, production, ingredient sourcing, and ethics. Did you know that having one packaged vegan burger (over one package/plastic free cow burger) uses 99% less water, 93% less land, has 90% fewer greenhouse gas emissions, and uses 46% less energy? So packaged vegan products over wasteful animal products any day for me!! ...also, how good does it feel to finally have groceries after being too lazy to do them for a few days and eating only rice and beans because this feels like the dream right now!

I know many of you complained about soap leaving the residue on your dishes, therefore not being the best alternative... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ PRO TIP: try to replace Castile soap with Sal Sud instead! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Unlike Castile soap, it doesn’t react with minerals (present in hard water), therefore doesn’t leave any “soap scum” behind. Try it out! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ _________________ DIY DISHWASHING LIQUID (SOAP RESIDUE FREE)! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ How to: mix 1:1 proportions of water and Sal Suds soap (start with 2cups of each) add two teaspoons of baking soda optional: 30 drops of essential oils of your choice ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ @zeroquestpeople ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #SustainableCollective #sustainableliving #plasticfreeoceans #sustainability #minimalism #zerowaste #wastefree #zerowastehome #plasticfree #journeytozerowaste #zerowasteuk #zerowasteliving #zerowastetips #goingzerowaste #ecofriendly #reducewaste #zerowastelifestyle #zerowastejourney #zerowastemovement #lowwaste #sustainablelifestyle #plasticfreejuly #plasticfreeliving #reducereuserecycle

These herbal lemon popsicles are magic and one of the best ways I keep our mint trimmed back. I like to use a mint-lemon balm tea for the base but any herbal tea will work. ••• Brew two cups of herbal tea, add 1/4 - 1/2 cup of raw honey + 1/2 cup of fresh squeezed lemon juice. Stir to combine well. Pour into popsicle molds, add a sprig if fresh herbs if you wish, freeze, and enjoy. In my latest blog post (link in the bio) I wrote about how it’s okay if you need to buy something new. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’s all about being reasonable, knowing your needs and answering the question: “Will this product make me stick to my resolution”? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Since we all come from different backgrounds, we need to understand that not everyone is willing to carry their lunch to work in a glass jar. For some people it might be a deal breaker, so investing in good quality lunch box/ bag is completely okay! As long as you are reasonable about it and do your research (make the conscious decision). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In the end of the day, it’s not about the perfection, but doing best we can (it’s a journey!). Do you agree? Is there anything you would add? How to detox when you're making the switch from conventional deodorant to natural deodorant ~ An armpit detox helps unclog any residual chemicals, toxins and bacteria the area has accumulated before introducing a new deodorant. This may consist of applying purifying masks or moisturisers to help combat sensitivity and reduce any issues that may arise. It’s not necessary, but some people may experience sensitivity when changing from conventional to natural deodorant due to the difference in ingredients. We recommend mixing bentonite clay, apple cider vinegar, and a bit of water to make the mask. You can also exfoliate your armpits once a week with oat flour (mix flour 1-to-1 with oil or water), then moisturise daily with unscented oil, like coconut, to help with absorption. Read the full blog on our website Pinterest - Ayleen Bath #blog #bloggingtips #ecofriendlyliving #ecoliving #wastefreeplanet #zerowastetips #lessplastic #thinkgreen #environmentallyconscious #ecoblog #saveourplanet #ecofriendlyswaps #sustainablefuture #earthday #environmentalfriendly #environmentallyfriendly #zerowastelifestyle #nowaste #sustainablelifestyle #journeytozerowaste #wastefreeliving #nomoreplastic #sustainableliving #sustainable #sustainablestyle #giveashit #packagefree #ecofriendly #plasticfreeliving #saynotostraws

Living low waste is going to look different to everyone. Living sustainably is going to look different to everyone. We all have different needs, resources, and prior experiences/education. It’s about doing the best we can with what we have, and never shying away from the possibility that you might not need something, or that there might just be another option out there that will work for you. And then never giving up hope on finding, and trying, and learning more about that new potential thing. Thrifting always sounded dirty to me. Why would I buy clothing secondhand when the new clothes I could get from a fast fashion retailer fit the current trends and were often times the same price (or cheaper) than the grimy ‘used’ ones? The question I then had to ask myself was “why do new clothes cost less than a cup of coffee?” ...and it was then that I realized that supporting unfair working conditions, absurd resource waste, and the destruction of our planet, all in the name of some head honcho at the top making a buck, was not the economic structure I wanted to support. So I tried thrifting. I gave it a fair shot. I tried to work past my germaphobia. And I did. Each time I went into a secondhand shop, it felt more comfortable. To this day, buying secondhand items has been one of my top favorite low waste swaps I’ve ever made! Little did I know, that by taking a step back from trying to stay “on trend” and “figure out what my style was” (that was such a big daily stressor to me! I could never figure it out!), I’d finally learn how to feel at home in my wardrobe choices. Truly. Learning to shop/exchange secondhand items (even outside of my wardrobe choices), has changed the way I see style, feel about my wardrobe, and how cozy I feel in my space. AND I’m saving the planet at the same time (...Also, lol side note these are screenshots from a video I made a few months ago that I just found on my phone gotta get back on that photo taking train this week. Ooops!)
