I used to be a "Part-Time" member of the LDS church... During that time, I chose to party a lot with my friends that involved alcoholic beverages. Despite being with people I never felt so terrible and alone about myself. I was on my last legs before my family and friends helped me come back to the church.
During my time of inactivity from the Church, I pushed away family and other people that tried to help me. My parent's separation is what really pulled me back into the church. Last February, my mom left my dad and I was very confused by it. I didn’t know where else to turn for help but to the church. The nonmember friends that I had were not supportive of me when I needed help. I was in a negative environment. The church helped me to heal from my parent's separation.
When I moved from Arizona to Utah that was one of my greatest blessings. It took me out of that negative environment and I was able to see things more clearly. I noticed that the members are kind and patient and they loved to serve others. I work as the program director for Excel youth. It's about helping youth with autism in high school and helps them prepare to integrate into college life. I work a lot with volunteers and getting activities ready for the kids. Kids sometimes go up to me and huge me and tell me that this is the highlight of their week and that makes me feel that I'm really making an impact. Helping them grow and improve their social skills. The one thing I would like to have is more consistent volunteers and kids so I can better plan the numbers but it really varies.
Recently, I received my endowment after I felt that I was ready. It's really hard to explain and I'm still processing it. I've begun to feel so many blessings in my everyday life.
