Kenya just unveiled Africa's largest wind power plant, a project aimed at reducing electricity costs and dependence on fossil fuels and moving the nation to meet an ambitious goal of 100 percent green energy next year. About 70 percent of the nation's electricity comes from renewable sources such as hydropower and geothermal - more than three times the global average. But one in four Kenyans - mostly in rural areas - does not have access to electricity. Those with power face high costs and frequent blackouts due to unreliable supply. The sprawling wind farm of 365 turbines on the shores of Lake Turkana in northern Kenya was designed to boost the nation's electricity supply by 13 percent, giving more Kenyans access at a lower cost, President Uhuru Kenyatta said at its launch on Friday. Floating Devices. Platform on the ocean floor with intentionally-studied floats in order to capture the energy from the wave motion and a train of gear wheels that transform the irregular, alternating motion of the waves into a continuous, one-way, rotating motion.The floats have a Variable weight/volúme ratio such as to produce a force both at the moment in which the wave rises but also when the wave recedes.This Variable weight/volume ratio is intentionally studied to quarantee a doubling effect in order to be able to providé a more correct rotating linearity to the Generator itself. The floats, connected to a main lever and to a second thrust lever, roduce a torsion force on a pinion thanks to a rack. The pinion makes the train of gear wheels turn which allows it to transform the alternating motion of the ocean waves into a continuous, one-way, rotating motion in both thrust directions of the rack. The platform in question has the dimensions of 30 meters per side and 8 floats 9 meters in diameter with a productive capacity of 8 MW/h under Force 4 marine conditions.(Douglas Scale).
