Here’s the left section of my painting... It was actually the hardest part to resolve, but once I ‘got it’, the rest of the piece came together. Originally I had too many colors here (haha that might sound strange given THERE ARE SO MNY COLORS In general .. ). But using green was throwing off the piece, making it too chaotic, and the eye couldn’t land anywhere. Sometimes when a section (or whole painting!) is realllyyyy not working it gives me permission to just attack it and wreck it and see what happens ‍♀️(as opposed to when it’s only sort of not working and I don’t want to risk losing what I have and making it worse!). So I wrecked it and then found the story

I wasn’t sure what the exact design for this painting would be, but through making mockups with different color palettes (some more muted and natural looking... others neon) and living with them taped up on my wall for a few weeks I decided it needed to be ✨BRIGHT✨ This is partly because outdoor walls can ‘take’ more color compared to indoors (which because of the ceiling and fact that they reflect the colors of adjacent walls appear darker/more saturated than in the tin), get washed out by the glare of the sun, and also because I thought the bright colors would pop against the garden . On a more personal level I wanted to change the atmosphere of the house and felt painting it with happy, bright colors that sing together would tell a completely new story and blanket over the old one ☺️ I really like that the blue section ended up extending towards the sky, so the cloud painting above can interact with it and be part of the design ☁️☁️☁️
