This Agave Americana plant is about to bloom and you can view it now at the Jordan Greenhouse. It’s truly incredible!! The flower stalk started growing in March and grew so tall that a ceiling panel had to be removed so it could extend out of the greenhouse. The stalk can reach lengths of 30 ft. This plant only flowers once in its lifetime and then dies. It’s estimated to be 50 years old. The Carmel Mission Basilica’s Agave plant is putting on a once in a lifetime show, according to the local Paper. “It’s been growing quietly for decades, and is suddenly sprouting a massive flowering stalk, and is already 15 feet, and expected to reach at least 20 feet tall before blossoming into a series of yellow flowers.
