@foodinjars new book came just as I was starting my long weekend last Friday. I took it from the package and went outside into the sun to read it, as I remember doing with at least one of Marisa’s other books. Marisa’s writing was the lightbulb moment for me way back when; she taught me I didn’t have to grow it to can it, which seems silly but I needed to hear it. She was (and still is!) an inspirational challenger, a no-nonsense, roll-up-your-sleeves kind of girl, one of those faceless internet people that became a real friend. I used to have so much more time to linger over books. I went back to work Monday and my mom was still here and had dinner waiting when I got back home. We sat at the table, my two parental units and my two sons, somewhere an echo of the family dinners I had every single night as a kid flooded back into my head. My mom made a salad, and chose a salad dressing from #foodinjarskitchen , since she was the one now to linger over a new book in the sun. Spring break, day 2. Nothing exciting here folks. I decided, even though it’s gorgeous out, to keep the wheezy kid inside. And it has paid off! His wheezing has calmed down a little. Marisa @foodinjars McClellan wrote a beautiful cookbook about using the food you’ve put by, and it’s full of sweet and savory treasures.
