An absolute hidden gem in the Dimond district and one of my favorite ice cream shops in all of Oakland. Families in this area know and love @flavorbrigade. It’s one of those unassuming neighborhood spots, where kids will after school, families will stroll in from the nearby Dimond library or park, or after a trip to the grocery store. My kids preschool took all the soon to kindergarteners here as a special graduation treat. They serve incredible frozen custard and Italian ice. They also have traditional ice cream as well, everything made in house and in small batches. But my recommendation, go for the 2nd Street, which is a combo of the frozen custard and Italian ice. Need a place to eat out with the kids this weekend? The newly opened @4505bbq in the Laurel District of Oakland is amaaazing for families! We would pass by the construction of the restaurant for *years* and it turns out, it was worth the wait. They have a pretty generous sized outdoor patio with quite a lot of picnic style tables. And there is this whole section just for kids with a playhouse, a giant connect four set up, chalk, magnets, buckets to collect nearby rocks, games, pots and pans, etc. The food is fantastic (get the brisket!) with lots of options to keep kids happy like the “Frankeroni” which is a crispy Mac and cheese with hot dog inside. To top it all off my kids were thrilled to discover that kids get free Humphry Slocombe ice cream cones WITH SPRINKLES at the end of their meal. This really is one of the most family friendly places we’ve been to in all of Oakland. Just a heads up, we went the opening weekend and it was less than half full at 11:30am, but packed full with a fairly long line by 12:30. My favorite summer destination is Stinson Beach. In my opinion it’s the most beautiful beach in entire the Bay Area. Not only is the water beautiful and perfect for the little ones, but my friends, there are TACOS. Right on the beach is @thesirencanteen where you can order up burgers, nachos and best of all tacos. A gorgeous beach day with a plate of tacos on my lap is as my idea of heaven. We leave Oakland around 9:30 and get to Stinson by 11am and it’s usually not too difficult to find parking around that time. Go later and it gets trickier because this is a very popular beach. But once you’re on the sand there’s plenty of room for people and never feels too crowded. Hitting a piñata with a stick is so last season... Never one to follow along with what everyone else is doing, Mathilde decided that the best way to smash her piñata open was to hang upside down from it! All I can say is that I’m glad that I over-engineered the piñata hen I made it and that Kim is good at tying strong knots! Mathilde has a blast today at her Wild Kratts themed 4th birthday party. Maybe not the first place you’d think of to go scootering with the kids, but we love going to @millscollege for a walk or a hike or a scooter ride. It’s lovely and peaceful and there’s a long stretch of tree covered sidewalk for kids to scooter down and take in the gorgeous campus.
