I think that most of the time, when we're doing AAC coaching and training that we need to keep things simple. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ Model → Prompt → Respond has been an awesome, effective, simple strategy that has been really successful for staff and families I've worked with. The best part is that it doesn't require ANY response from our students.⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ This strategy is super useful if you're struggling with people who...⠀⠀ Place too many demands on our early communicators⠀⠀ Say "tell me on your talker" all day long⠀⠀ Expect students to know how to find words on their AAC systems without lots and lots of modeling⠀⠀ Overprompt or resort to physically manipulating our students too often⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ When I teach this strategy, I usually also include information about a prompting hierarchy AND how to respond indirectly using comments like "Well I think it's exciting!" or "It looks like you want to be all done". ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ I'm so passionate about AAC therapy and just want all of the AAC users in the world to have a community that supports them in an effective, engaging, and low pressure way. ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ PS: This printable is from my AAC Implementation Toolkit. One of my favorite AAC moments is when the student is united for the very first time with his/her device after determining his/her needs from the AAC evaluation. Today my student was so excited and motivated to use her device for the first time. It was such a smooth and fun session! She also transitioned back to the classroom so well and was so excited to show her peers her new device! Really makes me remember why I love doing what I do ❤️
