When they look like this the first time you take them in your arms, you just know they’re keepers! These are Nerthus’ girls, Norna and Nyx. (We’re very international!). As you may have noticed, Nyx’ right eye looks a bit irritated. We were going to let them out today, but will wait a couple of days in order to treat the eye so she won’t get a nasty infection. I use s single drop of organic lavender essential oil in 1 decilitre of boiled, cooled water. I use a syringe for washing the eye without touching it, and then wash the skin around the eye with a piece if soft, clean cloth and the lavender water. Works like a charm - also for human babies.

~ WOOL & LINEN ~ (continued) These fibres were the primary fibres for all clothes worn by most people in Denmark, not that long ago. Obviously rich people wore imported fibres as silk also, but the majority was definitely local and homegrown fibres. I dream of a (western) world, where the considerations for our climate and the future of humanity outweighs the shortsighted ‘need’ for scaring amounts of cheap clothes, and a fashion industry that takes responsibility for their immensely complicity in the pollution of our Earth, and the dire impact on the climate change. We all need to change our views on fashion, what (fibres) we wear, the amount of clothes we really need, and how and where they’re grown and made. We can’t continue making excuses for our behaviour, as buyers - and makers - of clothes, we can all have an impact on climate change. Starting now. Do you know the American @fibreshed - connecting farmers, designers and mills for producing local, organic and sustainable clothing? They are doing it! For now I’m my own little fibreshed - maybe one day I’ll be a part of something bigger.

Jupiter after his quarterly haircut. He’s amazingly calm, still it takes at least an hour because we’re in no hurry. When I shear his back he lies on his belly, when I shear his belly he stands on his hind legs with his front paws on my arm. I think I will spin his fur along with some wool - this soft fawn colour is just so lovely. Note to self: next shearing is May 1st - perfectly timed for the bunnies to move outdoors again.

All my babies playing while the grown ups are eating their grains. I love their quiet swarming, the only sound being the soft patter of small hoofs.

I've been meaning to do a video like this for a while. There's still a lot of myths out there about Angoras - that shearing them is cruel, hurts them, that they're restrained during shearing or killed for their wool. None of that is true! Really, none of that makes sense. The best wool comes from a rabbit that is well cared for, and the best part is that every 3-4 months, they're ready to shear again! As you can see the rabbit here - Quill - is just sitting on a table for most of the process. He's not struggling, he's not hurt, he was well behaved through the whole thing. He kept trying to give kisses or get head rubs! This is about 8 minutes of video sped up to 1 minute, and the whole shearing took less than 15 minutes. I got 4.5 ounces of prime wool from him!

I have a habit of shearing show coats and then not touching them for a year or more because I'm afraid to spin them. It took me well over a year to do Kate's. I don't usually spin my show coats with a project in mind, I just see how the wool wants to be spun and eventually choose a project based on the yarn I end up with. I finally decided to start working on Gamora's show coat, and it's just beautiful! The darker and lighter parts of the coat are making for a lovely yarn so far, and I'm excited to see how it looks once it's finished!
