I have a huge place in my heart for biscuits. Not only are they delicious, they have the connotation of cozy mornings, nostalgia, and southern grandmas. Whether your family made them from scratch or you heard the iconic “pop” of the biscuit tube open, they’re always a comforting addition to the table. I love mine with honey butter or a hefty sprinkling of cinnamon sugar. Or if I’m feeling savory, as a sandwich with egg, pesto, and Canadian bacon. I’ve searched long and hard for a good biscuit recipe and these are my favorite. Crunchy on the tops/bottoms, but soft and pillowy in the center. You’ll find these biscuits at my pop-up café when it opens! I’m planning to serve them with honey butter, housemade fruit and bacon jam, or local cheese/meat.

Growing up, I was the weird kid who would use a napkin to scrape all the frosting off my cupcake during classroom celebrations, then just eat the cake. I’ve never liked frosting, and honestly, I’m still not a huge fan of it. As I got more into baking, I learned that the frosting we’re used to eating is American buttercream: butter and/or shortening and powdered sugar with flavorings. I personally found it gritty, heavy, and inedibly sweet. When I tried meringue buttercreams for the first time, my world was rocked. Can buttercream really be so light and fluffy with just a touch of sweetness It was an ethereal experience lol, and also game-changing for me as a baker. I exclusively use Swiss and French meringue buttercreams for my sweets and I often get amazed looks when people try it, particularly from people like me who have similar frosting preferences. Peach dragon fruit macs all ready to go for the pop-up this Saturday at @vertexcoffeeroasters from 9-12p! Made with Georgia peaches and fresh dragon fruit. Which, to be honest, doesn’t taste like much. Kind of like a totally bland kiwi with some crunch. Oh well! The seeds add a cool look but you’ll mostly taste peaches and French buttercream.

EXCITING NEWS FOLKS!!! Milk + Honey is coming to downtown Ann Arbor! We’re opening a pop-up café in @drinkblom’s beautiful space! Lots more details to come, but we’re looking at Fridays/Saturdays then expanding from there. Expect @brewmockingbird drip coffee, @teahaus_annarbor teas, and light breakfast and lunch items. Think buttermilk biscuits with honey butter and housemade sweet/savory jams, our ever popular savory scones, macarons, pastries, and of course, cake slices. Vegan and gluten free options too! A portion of profit will still support @ozone_house. YAY!

After about a year of living right around the corner from @pocai_a2 I finally made it there today...and I’ll be back! I got both toasts that they have (leg day and spin class had me STARVING), their avocado toast with radishes and pickled onions and their hummus toast with tomatoes and fresh basil.
