And when we are honest and say, “I’m not available”, it gives that person permission to do the same- whether it’s to their own partner, mother, etc... • If you are an especially attuned listener (which is rare), I am sure you are used to people unsolicitedly sharing their “stuff” with you (aka dumping on you, leaving you feeling like a receptacle for other people’s shit). It’s so rare for people to feel heard and your presence is such an anomaly that their floodgates open. So this consent thing is a game changer especially for the attuned empaths of the planet. I’ve set boundaries with people when they start to dump and I’m not available by saying something like, “I’m actually not emotionally available for this right now and that doesn’t seem fair to you”. #gamechanger • Brian and I have been asking each other this question “are you (emotionally) available?” for YEARS. (We thought it was a normal thing that all ppl do. But then we’d go to the market where we’d see a lot of ppl from our local community and quickly remember that it’s NOT a thing ppl do #help #deathinproduceaisle #emotionalabor!!)
