WHY DOESN’T ANYONE WANT HER... Meet Carly, this stunning girl came in to @babylonanimalshelter in fairly bad condition. She was emaciated, limping, had open sores all over her body and it was also obvious that Carly had not been socialized. Several days into her stay at the shelter, Carly became sick, and received immediate Veterinary care. Carly was diagnosed with a vaccine induced Meningoencephalomyelitis a form of bacterial meningitis. She is currently being medicated for her condition and is doing very well. With proper medical evaluation and care in a loving home, Carly’s health will most definitely improve. Carly is a young girl with lots of energy to expend, so she can get a little crazy with toys and a bit intense while playing fetch, but that is simply the excitement of learning to live life as a dog for the first time. She has truly blossomed with her socialization skills, is very loving with people and social with other dogs. The best home for this stunning girl is with a family who will give her the time and patience she needs to decompress, acclimate to home life, and is able to care for her medical needs. She was kept outside, neglected, and used for breeding. We know this story is sadly too familiar but it is one that must be told over and over until it sinks in that this type of treatment of any animal is NOT okay. Now LaLa sits alone and forgotten for almost a year behind shelter walls, our hearts truly break for this beauty. LaLa is a very sweet, stunning 2-3 year old Pitbull Terrier who is simply looking for love. She LOVES people but can be a little shy at first, so she needs a little time to warm up. Once she spends a few minutes with you, she will be your best friend! She is truly a beauty inside and out, she just needs someone to open their heart and give her the chance she so deserves. LaLa is a girl that will make you laugh; she is a sweetie who wants to be close and sit with you for gentle attention and cuddling. She is very smart, loves to play and learn new tricks. She already knows many commands like sit, stay, touch, down, come, and walks nicely on a leash. LaLa’s favorite things are playing with toys, getting treats, laying in the sun, giving hugs, and being close to her people. Her friends call her a velcro dog! This was the first ANTI-TETHERING tickets written in Suffolk county under local law 299-51. Two volunteers came across these two and thanks to compassionate officers from the 1st Precinct and Babylon Animal Shelter, they were saved. As you can see if took over a 1 1/2 years for this girl to get the rehabilitation and home she deserves. This is a perfect example of how much physical and mental damage occurs from chaining dogs. WILL ANYONE EVER LOVE ME Meet Phoebe, a beautiful girl who arrived @babylonanimalshelter in August of 2018. She was removed from a home along with a number of other dogs at the request of the police after being found abandoned in the basement. Phoebe was adopted but unfortunately returned after 3 months; she did not get along with the resident cat and also displayed slight guarding of toys while sitting with her people on the couch. However, when no toys were around she was just a snuggly couch potato. Phoebe is a pretty low key girl, though she does enjoy fetching a toy. She is sweet, listens well, and knows her basic commands. Phoebe's adopter has described her as a huge people lover, is completely housebroken and that she loves baths. The best home for this beautiful girl is with a savvy, experienced owner who is committed to loving and cherishing her for her entire life! One who will give her the time she needs to decompress, give her structure and continue training. With love and lots of patience and training, you’ll have a loyal, loving new member of your family. Brody is definitely a looker. He is tall, slim and muscular. Brody has shown us how he can run like the wind and it takes little encouragement. A home for Brody is one where he will be frequently exercised and have efforts put into continued training. Brody is great at catching treats in the air and especially good at convincing you to throw them his way. Brody knows how to work his magic when he wants that treat in your hand and he will ever so gently use his paw to tell you. He is very proficient at shake paw, and we have even shaped that into him waving. Brody is likely to form strong bonds with his forever humans, and could have the potential to not want to share them with strangers until he gets to know them. Brody is a good catch and in the right home he will excel. Brody would prefer to be in an only dog home because he wants to be the King and center of all your attention.
