OATS SHAPE BIN Oats are by far one of our favorite sensory bin fillers. Oats are safe for all ages and I just love how they feel! For this bin I put in some shapes from our shape sorter along with some bowls and scoops. We talked about the different shapes, filled them up with oats and stacked them. S loved picking up the oats and dropping them from above her head and trying to scoop up the oats. The big girls were so excited to jump in and play too! They had fun making waffles, ice cream and more! S is almost ten months old so I have started discouraging her putting sensory bin materials in her mouth so she can start playing with other sensory bin fillers soon! Have you tried playing with oats with your baby?
Farm sensory bags!! These are so easy to make and little miss loves exploring the different sounds and feel. I use mini laminating pouches and hair straighteners to seal the edges #babyplayinmay #babyplay #playingwithbaby #thebabyclub #invitationtoplay #playmatters #babyplayideas #everydayplayhacks #playathome #sensorybags #babyplayhooray. PLAY DOUGH CAKES As it’s my birthday I decided to set up a play dough activity for Ottilie for #babyplayinmay. A simple collection of silicone cupcake cases, candles and buttons. She hasn’t done much play dough because she puts everything in her mouth but as she’s getting better I thought I would give it a go. She played for a good 15/20 minutes before anything went in the mouth. This is great for developing fine motor and pincher grip. Check out my blog for all the reasons why I love play dough and some more fab ideas: LINK IN BIO!
Today I also did a toddler version of this for Emilia so check that out on my grid too.

PINK STICKY WALL Today I’ve tied together the #oursensoryspring theme of pink with some #babyplayinmay. I set up two sticky back plastic frames with masking tape for each of my girls and a tray of ‘pink’ loose parts to allow them to create. The main purpose of this was to encourage sharing because it’s a bit of a battle now because Ottilie wants to play with whatever Emilia has. They played for a good 30 minutes and so beautifully, with loads of cuddles and kisses thrown in too. #babyplay #looseparts #loosepartsplay #babyactivities #toddleractivities #babyplayideas #finemotorskills #Learningthroughplay #invitationtoplay #playdiscovercreate #playactivities #entertaining_kids #playandacupoftea #playbasedlearning #wherelearningmeetsplay #playingtolearn #toddlerfun #toddler #toddlersofinstagram #toddleractivities #3yearsold #earlyyearsideas #kidsactivities #earlyyears #eyfsideas #eyfsathome #mummyblogger #teacherblogger
Today’s #babyplayinmay is all about texture books & sensory bottles
Luke has always loved the “That’s not my” books by @usborne_books and now he’s getting older he likes to point things out and try to say them. He’s also getting very good at matching colours in puzzles and games so I thought this would be a fun new way for him

Invitation to Post
Have you heard? #babyplayinmay has started with a fab group of accounts (tagged in the pic for you) - there’s loads of inspiration on the tag already. We’re joining in with a quick-to-assemble posting activity for E, which she loves. I kept the lid from some baby wipes and fixed it onto a shoebox, then cut a hole underneath. She loves feeling the different sizes of blocks as she posts and I’m sure the colours make a difference as well. #easypeasy to lift the lid and retrieve all the blocks when she’s finished, too! Big thanks to Sian @teach.investigate.play for the idea.
DAISY WATER PLAY S had an absolute blast with this sensory bin. I attempted to collect rain water for the bin but then we got way less rain than we were supposed to. So I filled the bin with water, added some yellow food coloring and put two silk daisies that had fallen off the stems. She loved splashing the water with the daisies, making the daisies drip water, shaking the daisies to make water go everywhere, sucking on the daisies, throwing the daisies into the bin and more. S played for so long with this bin! Later I put together a bin for her big sister that had the daisies but also grass and flowers from outside to cook with. Who else has a little one that could play forever with water?

Invitations to play do not have to cost the earth. I recycled the flaps off a cardboard box and cut them in to rectangles . Using my cordless glue gun , with the help from my 6 year old we raided the craft cupboard to find materials to glue to our stamps. It was my sons idea to add quantities to the pieces of cardboard. He laid them out and we worked together to glue them on. This activity is great because we can count the number of materials on each cards 1-10 as well as using them as playdough or paint stampers . The children were eager to explore the boards. Without prompting they pushed the stamps in to @little.munchkins.early.years lavender playdough. They felt the different textures with their fingers , the older children counted how many Pom poms they could see , soon realising there were different quantities on each piece of card. .

Books
This has to be our favourite resource and we have millions
I first started reading to Luke when he was about 3 months old and used the classic “That’s not my books” from @usborne_books
When he was a bit older and able to use his hands more we moved onto lift the flap books with @nosycrow being a favourite and lately he loves picture books especially by @janefosterbooks as they’re so bright and clear, this has been a great way for him to begin to say some of the simple words. .
In an effort to spend less money on books I reserved these new books by our favourite publishers online from the library which I’ve never done before! Visiting our library can be a bit hit or miss but I’m so impressed, it was totally free and they were ready to collect in a few days I’d definitely recommend it as a way to try lovely new books without costing anything.
.
I noticed that Luke likes to pick the books out of the toy unit at the moment so I’ve moved them there but I still have the basket of books he can access anytime. I rotate these weekly and add in season/occasion books as well .
