Impression Match //⠀ .⠀ Kind of like shadow board but with the added sensory exploration of playdough!⠀ .⠀ A jar of our new playdough and some loose parts from around the house. I pushed them in, pulled them out and left it for the kiddos to discover.⠀ .⠀ Although I had a matching game in mind Aidan and Evie much prefered exploring the different impressions different objects made!⠀ .⠀ I just published my latest blog post all about play dough and why it is so beneficial for little fingers and hands. E G G carton tens frame & number rocks Want some free resources? Here are two great resources that are part of my numeracy centre basket. . . First: Egg carton tens frame. There are many beautiful tens frames (two rows of 5) on the market, but egg cartons with the end two pieces cut off work just as well. I’ve added 4 to our numeracy centre. For a kindergarten class 3 for each child in the group would be good (making numbers to 30). For a year one class 10 to make numbers to 100 would be a good place to start. Obviously don’t use these with a child who has an egg allergy. . . Second: Number rocks. I’m pretty sure everyone has already made them, but just in case, I’m mentioning them here. I’ve made large ones this time for prep. For older grades make them to 30 or 100. Writing multiplication table numbers on small rocks, with a blank times table grid background, is a fantastic way for children to practice their times tables. . . . Keep in mind that for prep we are EXPOSING them to number and allowing them to play. I actually love the way these resources were used, as photographed. The student didn’t use them in the conventional way but set them up like this. He confirmed more than once that he didn’t need anything in front of the zero. Student initiated learning at its best. . .
