If you meet people in Berlin, they’re like ‘you should have been here 5/10 years ago when it was really cool’. Well, as cool as the place still is and it is always pretty amazing, I actually took this 25 years ago and I know where they’re coming from. This is Mark Reeder of MFS Records fame, who moved out to Berlin from Manchester in the late 1970’s and this tank was propped up against a piece of the wall that was still standing. Don’t know where the tank is, the wall has probably broken up into tiny fragments and sold to tourists at Checkpoint Charlie whilst Mark continues to produce electronic music and still wears military attire from the former Eastern Bloc. It’s good to see that some things don’t change. This photograph was taken for Mixmag and the brilliant Trance Europe Express Magazine and as well as being my introduction to the Berlin Music scene was also the first time I had worked for the legendary Helen Mead and the first, though not the last, debauched weekend spent in the company of Kris Needs. 25 years ago and the stories from this weekend still make me laugh. Must try and find some more from these early visits to Berlin. ❤️
