@mullattachica ✨✨The Arrival ✨✨ ・・・ Two years ago I was washing dishes and watching a show with my Husband, Mother, Sister, and oldest son. I started having contractions while washing dishes and my Mom noticed and offered to finish and let me sit down. I declined, finished the dishes, and waited until the show was over and announced I was in labor. Everyone started prepping cleaning the tub, starting the water, lighting candles, playing music, etc. I took some motherwort, blue/black cohosh and got into the tub. My contractions made me question giving birth again and it took me a little while until I able to release and let my body do what it was meant to do. I moved around into several positions and ended up giving birth on all fours. This video captures that moment, the moment where I was a bridge between heaven and earth I was simultaneously at my most vulnerable, powerful, and magical. All of that said I am still at loss for words to describe how amazing it was to birth my second child on my terms into my husbands hands in our bathtub. Reposted from @bestdoula (@get_regrann) - Doulas often answer the question "what do doulas do"  The age-old answer for this has been "we provide physical, emotional, and informational support." But you see, this definition sells us very short. Sure, we provide physical support, sometimes literally - holding hips, legs, hair. However, a doula's ability to physically support their client isn't really that - it's that we are 100% responsive, anticipating needs before they are voiced by using our knowledge of our client and our understanding of birth. Physical support sounds like training wheels - and we are so much more than that. Yes, we provide emotional support. Pregnancy, birth, and postpartum are emotional times. But what doulas provide is unwavering faith in their client's abilities. Doulas can slow the room when it's spinning, be an anchor when clients need to hold on, act as a sounding board when they need to roar. We understand how very hard birthing people are working even when it looks easy. Yes we do have a vast amount of knowledge about pregnancy, physiologically normal birth, cesarean births and postpartum. But truly, providing endless amounts of information can create a divide in the relationship we build with clients. Instead, of being the source of all information for clients, doulas are the bridge to that information and other resources. Our clients, already know more about how they will birth their baby then we do. This time I decided not to get my hair done in some elaborate care free style for birth. I wanted to wash my hair after birth. Wash the sweat and the journey away. I'm so happy I did. I deep conditioned and put it in some nice #byefelicia twists.
