With the big half and London Marathon approaching , my #running trainings have increased. There’s weeks that I don’t have any day off and I have to run at least 30 km alone. Although #athletes are less likely to develop #hypertension than those in the general population, it's not a guarantee. I am very happy with my new @OMRON EVOLV , it’s Compact and so easy to use. They are wireless taking accurate readings in any position around the upper arm & track my progress via smartphone. It has the first (Amazon) #Alexa skill to connect to a blood pressure monitor. We can set up the system by pairing the #Omron cuff to the company's mobile app. From there, we can ask #Alexa to connect, and then request a reading of our latest blood pressure results, or calculate our average readings and compare levels throughout different times of the day. We can also have Alexa remind us to take our blood pressure in case we frequently forget. Had so much fun learning how to use the stethoscope to measure blood pressure in my pharmacy lab this week ⁣ ⁣ The two numbers we are looking for during blood pressure measurement are systolic and diastolic pressures. (Ex: 110/75)⁣ The purpose of pumping/inflating the cuff is to cut off blood flow. As pressure of the cuff is released, blood starts flowing again and the first sound heard will be the systolic pressure. This is the pressure when your heart beats. ⁣ As the pressure of the cuff is released further, there will come a point where the heart beat is no longer heard through the stethoscope. That is the diastolic pressure - the pressure in heart vessels when the heart rests between beats.⁣ ⁣ I’ve gotta say, I am OBSESSED with stethoscopes and want to invest in one cause it looks so COOL. Oh and also so I can take blood pressure measurements for my grandparents How I wished that pharmacists could use stethoscopes more
